The Human League - "Human"

So simple, but so nice! One of the better Jam & Lewis productions.

This always reminded me of MJ's "Man In The Mirror". To me it sounds just like it..

I know. This is why I wonder if he was influenced by it, melody wise.

Acutally this was released in 86'.See it was right after Jam and Lewis last album with S.O.S. Band, "Sands Of Time" and right before "Control" with Janet.
I read that the making of this album wasn't a day at the beach. There were a lot of creative issues with J&L, and the band resented that their label A&M were tryin 2 "make" them in2 an R&B group which they were not. Did anyone find it funny how J&L's picture was on the back of the "Crash" album ? Did the label want the people to know that it was a "Flyte Tyme" production if they couldn't tell by the sound?

This story with the group is interesting. I remember seeing an interview
with the Human League and the female lead was stating how they were trying
to rip off the S.O.S band sound. Maybe it was a cover up once the song
became a big hit.

Wonder how it could be a rip off since Jam and Lewis gave them their sound ? It'd be like sayin Alexander O'Neal's 1st album was a rip off of "The Time", when they're the guys who created the sound

I've always wondered that!! eek They were never pictured on any other project, why The Human League!? The funnier part is they were pictured as being part of the band. The way J&L tells the story, Phil O. BEGGED them to record the song!!

You know Jam said on the Purple Rain extras of First Avenue, that after the movie everybody and their band was runnin up 2 Minneapolis tryin 2 "cash in". Could this be one of the things he was talkin about? I wonder if Teddy Riley felt like this when he was gettin calls from Deja, Kool Moe Dee, Boy George and Michael Jackson.....

Thus my earlier comment about the female lead singer of the Human League
wanting to dip into the S.O.S band sound(via jam & lewis) if that's what
you want to call it. Remember jam & lewis generally gave their artists
leeway in terms of what they wanted to sing about or write about.

hmmm I don't know why they (The Human League) were so upset."Human" is one of their best singles and it did very well on the charts. Also,it's a very pop-sounding song (to my ears,at least). It's not as if Jam and Lewis turned them into R&B funksters, lol.

Craig David covers this track quite nicely. (B-Side to 7 Days I think)

Craig's version is cool, but it's too mellow
