Jermaine Jackson - I Dream I Dream (extended mix)

Talking about Babyface and LA on another thread got me to thinking about this song. I LOVE this song.

I never understood why it wasn't the 2nd single from that album. Releasing "Word To The Badd" as the 2nd single killed that album. They only released it because it was getting all of that press. The singles should have been:
1. You Said, You Said
2. I Dream, I Dream
3. Treat u Right or Don't You Deserve Someone

That album was too good to die so fast.

Jermaine's punk as could still be performing and recording. 92' was the last time he did something. Instead of tryin' to hang on to Mike,he should have been doin' his own thing. Old cats always performing and recording or just performing.

I was thinking about that the other day. After hearing that he claims that he hasn't had an income in over 10 years.

This man has a shit-load of hits by himself...nevermind the J5 music. He could easily be doing shows across the country promoting his back catalog. Come on, a show with a set like this:

Let's Get Serious
Little Girl Don't You Worry
Do What You Do
I Think It's Love
You Like Me, Don't You
You Said, You Said
Two Ships
Don't Take It Personal
Let Me Tickle Your Fancy
Daddy's Home

and about 5 or 10 more. The man has his own music!

There was a podcast about Prince and they also talked about Michael and Jermaine, and the hosts were clowning Jermaine "Other than Let's Get Serious, what other hits? He probably had to beg Stevie for that track"

These cats obviously didn't know much of Mike's work (confused Triumph with Victory, called Invincible the "Butterflies" album, and one said he wouldn't go to Michael's shows because he felt Michael wasn't 'talking to him')
and they didn't know ANYTHING about Jermaine's stuff. He's released 13 albums and had 23 Top 40 R&B hits, 5 being in the top 5
"We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

This is the jam and I do agree that I Dream, I Dream would have been a much better second single. I think Treat You Right would have been a good third single. His and Babyface's voices complement each other. I would even nominate Secrets as a good choice. That song is so smooth and had a lot of potential. It is my favorite song on the album and Word to the Badd is my least favorite.

Disagree, Jermaine is a great singer, but he comes second to Mike. He's the 2nd most talented in the family. That's why it's a shame he never kept releasing music.

Yeah,Jermaine is one lazy dude lol He could be out there touring on his own, making lots of money.Other male R&B artists like Jeffrey Osborne,Howard Hewitt,Freddie Jackson and Alexander O'neal are constantly on the road.In fact,Jeffrey plays my area next month.Jermaine's got the nerve to go to court and tell a judge that he can't pay his child support payments because he "has no income" rolleyes That's pure laziness! I guess he didn't get the memo: Touring is part of an artist's job description.

A career wasted..... Sorta reading between the lines (I maybe wrong) it appears Jermaine spent a lot of energy worrying about Michael success instead of just do his thing. Instead going forward he kinda got stuck... I think for all the Jackson men (with the exception of Marlon) when their marriages hit the rocks so did they.

I never thought about it till Soul's brought it up, Jermaine could be doing concerts/touring. They built a new state of the art open-air concert venue in the suburbs of Chicago. (I think last year was it opening) From Last May to early Sep. the "Country Club Hill" had every Funk/R&B/Soul/Smooth Jazz/Jazz artist you could think of. Including the one's Soul mentioned. Curious.

As far as Jermaine cutting records... wasn't he on his brothers label? The same label for which MJ wouldn't release any of his brothers music? Amazing. All of those guys have crashed and burned.

I don't think Jermaine is lazy per se, but I think that he has this complex that he's a Jackson and he doesn't do small gigs or things he feels are beneath him.

disagreed jermaine does have a beautiful voice but he can only do so much with it it's not as versatile as michaels voice and sometimes he always sounds the same

Hmm. I wonder what he considers a small gig? We have a couple venues in Chicago metropolitan area that seat 5,000 tops. If that's Jermaine's issue/reasons he needs to get over himself. For two consecutive years Ron Isley/Brothers performed in Gary IN. at the cities beach front park community for 4 of July a couple of years ago.

Yeah,I know he probably thinks it would be degrading/embarrassing to play at a "small venue".But I think it's far more embarassing when he doesn't pay his child support payments and has to be dragged into court. He needs to get over himself and start working for a living, like everyone else does.A recent show in my area featured Stephanie Mills,The Whispers and Howard Hewitt. These are artists who may not be "hot" anymore, but at least they're working for a living and paying their bills. They realize that it's all part of their job.

nod

That's not the show where Stephanie Mills' body guard was turned away because of his name and skin tone? She was on Tom Joyner's show a week or so ago talking about how The Whispers didn't perform because of it.

I've never heard this.

I still love, and listen to regularly, Jermaine's self-titled 1984 album with "Tell me I'm Not Dreamin'", "Do What You Do", "Take Good Care Of My Heart", "Some Things Are Private" and "Dynamite". It really was his Thriller. And despite the number of great singles from that album, I feel like it never got it's true due.

If you like that album, you'll love the "You Said" album. It is a really good album. It was on LaFace records and you can find it everywhere for $1 or so. It deserved more recognition for sure.

Is that the one with "Word To the Badd" ? Either way, I think of heard that album title, not sure. I'll keep an eye out for it at the local record stores here.

I have this, but I think his Motown LP's are much better, maybe not much. Frontiers is great.

Alot of his Arista work was too poppy/sappy for me, still good though but missing that soul he had with Motown.
