Any thoughts on why Diana Ross' USA chart run abruptly came to an end in the mid 80's? I've always been very curious.
Of course the move to EMI played a role but I still find it amazing that for a woman who ruled the mid-late 60's, 70's, and started the early 80's on an upswing, things just came to a screetching halt around 85. Thoughts? [Edited 4/13/09 14:39pm]

She and RCA had problems with each other and RCA wouldn't fully promote her music. "Chain Reaction" was the closest thing to a big U.S. hit but it wasn't promoted.

didn't she like remarry and start having babies again and was tryna be an actress again? in short, she had other goals besides singing.

Every artist experiences a decline in sales, especially after they've been around for so long.Diana had hit singles in the 60s,70s and the first half of the 80s.She had a good run.I think that the quality of her music declined after the 'Swept Away' album although there were a few decent singles after that ("Chain Reaction","Dirty Looks").
