james ingram actually co-rewrote the track with quincy jones. he didn't write the original demo version, but rewrote the track from the demo to the version that's on the album
jackson and greg phillanges (who also co-wrote the remake of yellow magic orchestras behind the mask, and covered it, and then eric clapton later covered it - greg was in his band) wrote the original version

This is what I hate about music downloads, no liner notes and no information about the tracks. I miss that terribly. I got turned on to so many other artists and music, just by reading the LP jacket or CD booklet. Gone are the good ole days of music and artistry.

Fuck that, they got liner notes posted on Allmusic somewhere and I've BEEN knowing James Ingram wrote that.

Yeah, exactly. It's not a big surprise or a best kept secret. the only question used to be: Who's James Ingram? And if anyone doesn't know James' music, then either you're VERY young or you'd been listening to one artist all your life. Music IS knowledge, now.

It's been rumored that James actually wrote the song himself, and Quincy kinda "took" credit "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

I heard that because the whole track sounds more like Ingram than Quincy.

He played the keyboards, hell he might've played the bass synthesizer on it because I didn't hear no regular bass. It sounded like it was played on a synthesizer. James was a member of a funk band when he met Quincy Jones.
