I think during the American Life era, when her last album was music and no pink leotard or JT in sight, she has matured and became a more traditional songwriter.
Do you think this whole "I'm performing unplugged my new songs" attitude was fake or sincere? Is that what Madonna really would love to do?
I always liked those clips where just she and her guitar teacher Monte are playing X-static Process, Mother & Father among others.

Do you believe her when Madonna says she wants to be an artist?
I can remeber the one scne from TOD when she tells her father: "But that would mean compromising my artistic integrity".
Has she such, I mean musically?

Is she able to judge her own work? This is what she said about HC and COADF

I felt more introspective because I was writing with Pharrell and Justin. On Confessions, which I wrote all the lyrics to, I wanted to stay away from anything serious, even though the word ‘confession’ implies seriousness. I just wanted to make a frivolous dance record, and with this one I had to dig deeper and go to a different place… For me, it’s a true collaboration, intellectually and artistically.

Imo, it's quite the opposite. On COADF most of the tracks were serious; the fun songs (Super Pop, History and Triggering) were rejected.
Hung Up, Jump and Sorry are not serious, but the rest is. That's why I always was disapoiinted with COADF.

And on HC she feels it was very introspective? Sure, some songs might share personal thoughts and fears (Miles Away, Incredible) but She#s Not Me might be about her marriage but it's not really introspective. Neither is Heartbeat, I mean, she talks abot what dancing means to her, it's not deeply personal I think.
At lkeast compared to other songwriter's perosnal stuff.

No, I don't believe the theory that if AL was a hit, we'd be getting avant-garde music from Madonna instead of pop hits. The acoustic guitar overload was a phase to her, she still plays the guitar on concert but I doubt she wanted to become Alanis or Jewel and keep on recording that kinda stuff. And it's not like AL didn't have any of her usual simple pop, there's "Hollywood" with the silly rhymes or "Love Profusion" that could have been written for COADF or HC.

I believe at the moment when Madonna releases her current music, she enjoys performing it. After a couple of years, she obviously changes her mind about it, but I think she realizes she's about always changing and doing a different style, not only because it keeps her successful, but she'd probably get bored in one style.

As for her calling HC introspective: I agree it was a bit of a stretch, but if you look at it, the songwriting is much more complex than COADF. On COADF most songs have 2 verses and the chorus or a line repeated till the end. HC has a lot of different song sections because of Pharrell & Justin, maybe she referred to the songwriting process as "introspective". I believe Madonna calls "Incredible" or "Devil..." introspective because they are a bit deeper than most of COADF. Like "How High" or "Let It Will Be" are about fame, but they are executed in a very simple way, while HC has simple topics too, but it's like a step forward. Of course "Candy Shop" or "Spanish Lesson" are not introspective, but as a whole, I do think HC reveals more about Madonna than COADF.

okay, you have a point. I always prefered HC over COADF.

In all honesty, I don't think people care about her fame songs. They are boring, I don't need a Madonna weeping over her fame.

She did one real good, amazing fame song - Substitute For Love.
