My point is that Prince did the O2 first. And I definitely get the impression that MJ is simply trying to "one up" him by doing a residency in the same venue.

By all accounts, Prince could have sold out many more nights at the O2. As it stands, he did 21. But how many shows did he actually do - when you count both O2 and Indigo shows?

How many 2-concert evenings do you think MJ will do. Hmmmmm?

I can't see him doing more than 10 concerts before he's hospitalized from a hangnail lol

since you seem so confident and insist that mj has canceled so many concerts would you mind posting a list of concerts that mj has ever canceled for no good reason.

Well I am no expert on anything MJ or Prince but I have to say there is no contest here. Prince is a musical genuis, a true genuis in every sense of the word. MJ, he can dance I suppose but to my very limited knowledge he never plays any musical instruments so therefore is not a musician!!!!

As for who paved the way for who, well there were talents way before either of them.

Michael writes, composes, and produces

People have this "since you don't play instruments on stage, you're not a musician"

being a musician is more than that

thank you. but it's no use telling them when they feel threatened they will strike out

There's no comparison here. Even if MJ played 10 instruments on stage at the same time, there's no comparison. They couldn't be farther apart.

i was just about to post this lol

the article loses all of it's credibility with it's last line.

"But LotusFlow3r ranks with Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic as his most creative yet."

Actually, you took the quote out of context...Here's the entire line:

"As a postscript, Prince has long used artistic license in coming up with the titles for his albums, inventing such words as Lovesexy and Newpower (as in Newpower Soul). But LotusFlow3r ranks with Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic as his most creative yet."

you guys seriously need to grow up!

1)Michael dances on stage, but he plays instruments for the cd's, read the booklets. He can play guitar and piano and a couple other things too (can't remember them as my cd's are in storage for moving), if he decided to play them on stage I bet you would all be tripping that he's copying Prince! Hell, Prince keeps trying to convince Michael to stop dancing and show people his playing abilities, Michael insists nobody wants to see that, they come to see him dance.

2) I bet Prince wouldn't look the same doing the moonwalk now would he? So why are you guys insisting Michael ain't no good cause he don't play instruments. Name one kid from todays music industry who can? Everything now is b.s. lyp-sincing

3)Michaels skin colour wasn't really his option, vitiligo screws you over. I got a friend with it, she gets teased by other black kids for being white. His surgery, yeah that was his choice, but they ain't as many as the media insists, if you look at his pics...

4) Prince respects Michael, and vice versa, so why do you guys have to act like such idiots? Grow up!

This is why I usually avoid a Prince forum, because on all the MJ forums I've been on, we can respect both artists for their talents, knowing that they are different, and still both amazing performers. But on a Prince forum? I have yet to find one I can sdtand being on long enough to post something! Atleast on MJ forums we talk about how cute both Mike and Prince are, one being the bad boy the other a boy-next-door type...

I'll keep on the forums but damn people, this isn't the 80's, get over yourselves!

yeah actually I am, and there's video footage of him playing piano live and guitars.... he also plays drums, and others.... but you wouldn't really care about that because he isn't Prince and he isn't jamming on a blue cloud guitar, just an acoustic and Jackson electric...

they took off the behind the seens video for scream showing him on guitar... so here's the others:

piano:
http://www.youtube.com/wa...5O61yKkdr4

beat boxing:
http://www.youtube.com/wa...wBvKOD4Zm0

If you check the album covers from Bad to Invincible to see that MJ plays instruments. Before he joined the J5 as a singer, he played bongos. There's multiple pics & J5 video of him playing drums as a youngster, and him playing piano in later years.

Adrian Grant (Author) also says he is accomplished on piano and drums, In one of his depositions (Dangerous Crystal Cartier Case) he talks about playing a moog synthesizer too. Michael often did his own demos, or demos with his brothers on which he would have had to have been able to play at least a synthesizer or keyboard.

Mostly, though, Michael makes sounds with his mouth and instead of using a piano, he beat boxes and uses his voice to make noises to imitate every instrument.

MJ has also improvised with something to make music - bottles come to mind.

MJ also wrote some of the stuff he did for Thriller on a Baby Grand Piano.

There's a photo of MJ with Greg Philliganes where both men are discussing music over a keyboard and MJ's fingers are on the keyboard keys. He also played a bit of the piano at the White House in 1984.

MJ has also composed his own pieces of classical on his own. Little Susie started off as classical and evolved into a dramatic operatic style.

Not being able to read sheet music doesn't mean you can't play instruments - Paul McCartney is the same and still plays.

Tell that to the 02 arena which sold out 50 concerts for MJ in the span of a few hours. This, after 10 shows were announced and sold out in record time, and 40 more shows added through next February.

Well it's great that MJ sold out that many shows, but lets just see if he manages to perform at all of them before we start crowing, shall we.

Dude has got some hard work to put in b4 then, as well as the fact that most of the people buying them tickets are expecting to see the MJ of old who was an entertainer...i have my doubts, but I am open to being proved wrong! confused

If you notice Mj fans do not give shit about prince, and most of the time you find prince threads on MJ forums are peaceful and respectful , thois cannot be said about Mj threads on prince forums....so where is the problem? i think you can figure it out yourself...

Now On the contrary...I love how prince fans always downplay Mj's legacy and talent in order to inflate Prince's talent, treating MJ like a puppet with no talent and discrediting his huge accomplishments, but you know what? what prince fans say about MJ is not important at all because everybody knows what Mj brought to the table, what Mj has done will never be denied.

The majority of prince fans always play the instrument card to inflate prince talent? Why? Prince doesn’t need the help, he is a genius on his own, its ok if you prefer prince over Mj but to completely diminish what Mj has achieved is utterly ridiculous .

Every celebrity has his/her mafia/lunatic fan base, but damn, Michael's is off the charts. Scarier than the Elvis diehards. But I do admire your dedication. If Prince was on trial, you wouldn't catch me at the courthouse with doves. biggrin

It's a real bad article. If you were to listen to him, than the Pointer Sisters, Tina Turner and Donna Summer, all black artists with significant hits before MTV, also owe their MTV fame to MJ.

Prince owes more to someone like Todd Rundgreen, a name that gets touted around here often. A man that plays many instruments and is not afraid to explore new genres. Obviously this is a naive MJ fan that really didn't do his homework. After all, it wasn't like Prince was up to nothing before "1999".

It is a real bad article, they are letting anyone that can shmooze get a music writing gig I take it.
I see much more informed writing here on the org even from people I completely disagree with.
