YOUR TOP 5 RAP ACTS OF ALL TIME So orgers, who makes the cut? And if you can't decide on rap acts then what about your top 5 rap jams of all time? I don't listen to much rap these days but if I was forced to compile a list then I would have to limit it to these top 5 of all time.
Mine: 1. Whodini. yes they were rappers and the first I ever listened too! 5 minutes of funk was the shit and I even like One Love 2. Run DMC - Its Like That 3. Grand Master Flash - White Lines still gets play in the clubs 4. Beasty Boys - Sabotage is killer 5. LL Cool J - well his looks help a lot. Who do you love?

1) Public Enemy - a big gap btwn them and whoever i decide to put second after typing this. Rap at its most compelling, political, and provocative. I LOVE Chuck D.
2) Run DMC - Classics galore, groundbreaking pioneers 3) A Tribe Called Quest/DeLa Soul - The crews had parallel careers IMO and are forever linked as my favorite fun loving, thinking man's rap crews 4) Outkast - Perhaps the most consistently good catalog in hip-hop 5) Eric B & Rakim (technically The R, is a soloist, but with Eric B, they're a group; Paid In Full lands them in anybody's top 10 list of anything rap) I didn't list solo MCs, i processed this thread in terms of GROUPS. Near Misses: Souls of Mischief, Digable Planets (not enuff material), Brand Nubian,

DesireeIn my opinion.....
1. Grandmaster Flash .. and them (for The Message alone)...no one else were like them at all either. However in my opinion I havent really got anything else that came close to that caliber..but the Message alone is the top rap song of all time imo 2. Eminem ..always kept me awake and wondering what he was going to do next..thought provoking and funny. 3. Nas..such an enlightener...however he always needed better production 4. Biggie. Even though he had only 2 albums to show his influence has been massive..his flows and style are still untouchable. 5. Jay Z. He may not be the best of all times, however his productions with the way he says things always match. And while it's somewhat easy for others to copy his style, no one can sound as good as him over those old school samples and catch phrases he comes up with. Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

Quite a few nods to public enemy. I was never really into them. I only remember them for that Spike Lee movie and b/c of flava flav and all his dating shows. Sad I know. I outta revisit and see if I would give them honorable mention.
