Okay, let's see:
-Prince -Sheila E., Peter Michael and Pete Escovedo (had seats right in front the stage at Yoshi's in San Francisco). -Mike Phillips (saw him at the bar in the 3121 Restaurant in Las Vegas) -Juan Escovedo (he plays at my mom's church during the services sometimes) -Smokey Robinson (very nice, but kind of a womanizer) -Tony Orlando (I interviewed him for a paper I was working at in Illinois and later got to meet him after the concert. He was one of the nicest people I have ever met. Ever.) -Meredith Brooks (she came and played at my high school) -Carlos Santana (I used to be friends with his son, who I attended high school with. I got to have dinner with him, his ex-wife, his son and his oldest daughter, among others, when his son turned 18. I also got to hang out backstage with him, when Lauryn Hill played at Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco about 10 years ago. She invited Carlos to play with her on the song "To Zion."). -Andre 3000 (Outkast opened for Lauryn Hill at that same concert and he was just "Dre" then. He came into Carlos' dressing room). -Benny Rietveld (Played with Sheila E. and later Carlos Santana) -Alexander O'Neal -Margie Cox -Jellybean Johnson (He hung out at our table at Bunker's the day after the three concerts at in Minneapolis in 2007. I also met him again when The Time played San Francisco last Halloween). - J.T. The Bigga Figga (oh, to be from San Francisco). -4-Tay (see above) -Joyce Irby from Klymaxx -Mandy Moore (not the nicest girl I ever met) -Morris Day That's all I can think of for now. Hmmm, gotta think back a bunch of years...
James Brown...I was around 12. He was the first music artist I ever met. He was very nice to us kids and Lynn Collins was beautiful! WAR...hung out with them several times, (almost got into hanky-panky once, LOL!). The most memorable was the time they played a promo set right inside Blu Note Records. My friend, who works there called me around 10pm 'cause he knows I'm a WAR-head. I grabbed my kids out of bed for that jam 'cause I knew it was something they'd never forget. They hung out and chatted with us for almost an hour afterwards. The most down to earth guys you could imagine. Stevie Wonder...I was around 14 and I climbed onstage and sat a few feet behind him for the whole show. Back in the day security wouldn't bother a kid if you kept still and quiet. I was transfixed. Kool and The Gang...when I was around 16 and my god-sisters and I had snuck backstage. They saw us peeking in the doorway and invited us in. I've never seen a group of guys be such perfect gentlemen to a bunch of silly teenaged girls. They gave us snacks, sodas and autographed photos. I still have that picture. George Clinton...danced onstage with him and Sir Nose. Eartha Kitt...Back when she did Timbuktu. She was tiny and very sophisticated dahling. I held her pekingnese doggy while she signed her autograph for me. The Bar-Kays...when they played a show on our college campus. Hugh Masekela...met him at a community event. Sheila E and her family...they were signing autographs after a show. Nice people. Prince...been close to him several times and talked to him briefly once in '06 in Vegas. The thread describing it is here on the .org somewhere so I won't type the whole thing again. Suffice it to say he was very sweet, looks exquisite and his eyes are incredible up close. Morris Hayes...several times. Very handsome, genuine and cool. Jerome Benton and Jellybean Johnson...the very first people I saw when I got off the plane in Vegas. We chatted as we rode down the escalator. Cool guys. Morris Day...the same weekend in Vegas outside the Rio. He shook our hands and said hello but he seemed distracted so we let him be. Larry Graham...at Macy's on 7-7-7. He and his wife Tina were working the line of people waiting for the show. Mavis Staples...a couple of years ago after her show. She was wonderfully kind and chatted a bit about Prince while she signed my copy of The Voice. She let us take photos which I posted here awhile back. Jeffrey Osborne...I had a backstage pass and he took a photo with me. He was very nice and hung out till the cops made everybody leave. Mike Phillips...last year. He tried to be nice but you could tell he wasn't in a great mood. He had gotten pissed at one of the engineers earlier and hadn't quite shaken it off. That's all I can remember right now. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise. | |

The lawsuits on both sides are still pending. Meanwhile the Lowriders, (who have 4 of the original members) are having trouble getting gigs because the promoters get threatened with lawsuits by Goldstein, who owns the name WAR.
