Is there any reason Triumph isn't on this list??

Same reason Dangerous is not on there. I mean, come on, I LOVE Peabo Bryson's I Am Love. It is his best album, but it doesn't compare to Dangerous or Triumph.

Dangerous was 91. Also, no Force MD' or Full Forcre.

To be fair, Force MDs and Full Force's albums were horrible IMO. They had great songs, but their albums were filled with lots of filler.

I would rather see Lisa Lisa's Spanish Fly or their ST album. They were good albums...especially Spanish Fly.

You're probably right. I still don't get how some of those albums made that list. Hell, Bad should NOT have been on that list.

This is the album some thought "he done crossed over", lol.

I remembered the reviews of "Dangerous" four years later and the headline went something like "Jackson goes back to R&B roots" or something on the album or something like that, lol.

"Bad" was hailed as a pop album.

exactly my thought when I read that... "wtf?" eek

contrary to most others I really dig "Faces" though, contains many great songs and with just a bit of editing could have been a splendid single album

so then I have to say "nice list" overall smile of course one can always argue about certain omissions, positions and this and that.. one that springs to my mind rigth away is Bobby Womack "The Poet II", which would be in my Top 5 at least.. have to think about others, I'm sure there're more

I own 24 of them lol

Teena Marie was on the list (Tenna Marie as one person noted is not). And we should stop hating on Michael. There are R and B songs on bad and Thriller, it may have crossed over pop, so did a lot of R and B albums, beside nearly every Michael Song is R and B

agreed. personally I wouldn't file "Private Dancer" under R&B. it's mainly Pop & Rock shrug

I guess the voters have spoken. I wonder how many people voted and which specific albums could be chosen from every artist. Overall it's always a problem that lists are often too limited and lack entries which should deserve a spot.

Well, I can only think of "Another Part of Me" and "Smooth Criminal" (maybe) that could be considered R&B. The rest is "pop" compared to the other albums on the list. Don't get me wrong, I like the Bad album, but to say it is an R&B album is not true. Same could also be said for a few more of the albums on the list. But to leave off Jody Watley's self titled album, The Jacksons Destiny, Chaka Khan's Whatcha Gonna Do For Me, and a ton more is a crime. Hell, I'd rather see Stevie Wonder's soundtrack to The Woman In Red or In Square Circle added to the list instead of Bad or Simply Red's album.

Eh, I'd put "Man in the Mirror," "Leave Me Alone," "Speed Demon," and "Liberian Girl" in the R&B column as well. I'd definitely call the album R&B.

Same could also be said for a few more of the albums on the list. In Square Circle is #38 (although FTR I think Characters is clearly superior).

I get Liberian Girl and Speed Demon also being r&b, but Man In The Mirror is a pop song to me. The arrangement is straight pop. THe choir makes it "inspirational", though.

As for Characters, I forgot about that album. I don't know why I did, I just bought the 12in of Skeletons this weekend.

I consider "Bad" to be a straight up pop album, as oppose to "Off The Wall", which to me was his last R&B album. There was nothing on "Bad", that had that R&B sound.

I agree with you. The album has a r&b feel, but it is a pop album. Although, Speed Demon has one of the funkiest bass lines of the 80s.

There are a lot of albums on that list that were greater than "Thriller" but doesn't surprise me it landed at #1. Guess since it's the biggest selling album, it will always land atop any 80's Pop/Rock/Soul list.

Very interesting the Grammy winning "Chaka Khan" made the Top 30 but Warner Brothers refuses to reissue over here in the states. mad
[Edited 4/7/09 14:46pm]

There are a few albums on the list that haven't been reissued in the states. The Jones Girls - At Peace With Woman, The Whispers - The Whispers, SOS Band- On The Rise, are just a few that I can see.

It was interesting that SOS Band's album was the only one that didn't have an Amazon link to the album.

Overall, yet another controversial list....only Prince's two big albums on there...OK.
