"Fanomenal" VIBE FANomenal Review in Full A Missy Elliott album is like a set of jumper cables. DJs reach for her when their set starts to sputter, and she sends jolts through club wallflowers. But when the singles are over, where do you turn? Hard-core heads recognized her status from Day One, while more politically correct music lovers didn't know how to label her. But on her seventh album, Missy finally outs herself as hip hop's duchess of dope. It doesn't matter who's working the boards: if she's in a garbage bag or is Weight Watchers' most dedicated client, she's still Atlantic's cash cow. There are predictable moves here, like 'Shake Ur Pom Pom,' which is all slippery champagne-room bounce, and the drop-top banger 'Like When You Play the Music,' featuring newcomer Jazmine Sullivan. But it's a joy just to hear Miss Demeanor reteamed with her sonic soulmate, Timbaland. The best of their re-alliance, 'Love,' is powered by a CD-skipping treble and a Vocoder effect that recalls one of their finest collaborations, Aaliyah's gorgeous 1996 hit 'One in a Million.' Missy also enlists Danja--Timbo's protege and the producer behind Justin Timberlake's recent 'Sexy Back'--for the bubbly and braggadocious 'Best Best.' But once the smoke from her this-is-why-I'm-hot rhetoric dissipates, there's still an undeniably sassy savoir faire that holds up to the hype. And though she claims to have the sharpest tongue in the biz, the truth is Elliott seldom spits lyrics that make you go, hmmm. Missy's verbal strength has always been in her delivery. She uses vocal inflections like an instrument, her cadence as rhythm. In the end, Missy is doing as she has always done: Loading up on schizo hooks as frantic and exhilarating as her producers' liquid digital renderings. She keeps a stash of slithery singles under lock and key--and pulls them out of the closet when the time is right. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

I have noticed a lot of people haven't been following up their schitt since 2005. It's like they all noticed the dip in sales since then and are scramblin' or something.

Damn! You're right about that! I would like to believe they were in it for the art and not the money, but then I can be naive at times. To hell with MTV cribs!! They caused this whole mess!

I got the 12 inch promo single for "Best Best". But once that single wasn't well recieved, she shelved the album last fall and started working on new tracks- including new songs with Timbaland.
A new album should be out later this year, so she's still recording. There was a new song that debuted on Concrete Loop earlier this year called "Put It On You" produced by The Neptunes featuring Teyana Taylor. I like that joint. Missy's rapping in Pig Latin- crazy ol skool Missy. I missed that. She seemed to have gotten a bit too conventional over the years. Her new album is tenitively retitled Block Party. Here's the link to a snippet of the track: http://www.prefixmag.com/...mp3/26396/ [Edited 4/1/09 22:41pm]

Yeah, I don't know if that is the review that made her pull the release, but it is the only one I ever saw. I heard it called "Block Party" somewhere else though (and I can't remember where), which is apparently its new title.
