Anybody remember Kashif?

I'm sitting here listening to his 'Definitive Collection'.He's a really talented keyboardist/vocalist who made a string of great R&B albums in the 80s.Y'all remember his hits...

"I Just Gotta Have You (Lover Turn Me On)" (1983)
"Stone Love" (1983)
"Baby Don't Break Your Baby's Heart" (1984)
"Are You The Woman"(1984)
"Love The One I'm With (A Lot Of Love)" with Melba Moore (1986)
"Love Changes" with Meli'sa Morgan (1987)

In the 70s,he joined the band B.T. Express, then became a successful producer in the early 80s (he produced such hits as Evelyn King's "I'm In Love" and "Love Come Down",as well as several tracks on Whitney's first album). He pretty much had his own special sound, which consisted of breathy background vocals, catchy hooks, and lots of synths.

Of course I remember Kashif. He was hot back in the 80's. He had that SOUND of the time that everybody seemed to want.

I also liked many of the songs he produced for Melba Moore...

"Love's Comin At Ya" (1982)
"Mind Up Tonight" (1982)
"Livin For Your Love" (1984)

And,if I'm not mistaken,I think he also produced Whitney's first hit "You Give Good Love".I LOVE the second song on her debut album,"Thinking About You",which Kashif wrote, produced and sings on...

"Just like a river of wine, you intoxicate my mind,I'm thinking about you (that's what I wanna do)...Pick me up,let's go down,I'm thinking about it too"

(picking up the first Whitney Houston CD) smile

Yeah, this is a decent beginner's book to the music biz, but it's just that...a beginner's book. But, he pretty much says this much in the book and that folks should get other, more in-depth books for different aspects of the business!

Damn, now thats a name I haven't heard 4 a while. I too have his 'Definitive Collection' David, his songs with Meli'sa Morgan is the best(Love the One I'm With (A Lot of Love) & Love Changes) she sounds alot like Deborah Cox. She woulda been the other Whitney Houston,,oh well LOL

BTW Dave, he also produced in Whitney's 2nd LP "Whitney"

Whatever happend 2 him anyway?? If he's still here, his production would sound alot like The Flyte Tyme production.

I love me some Kashif, thanx 4 bringing that up. You def brought alot of good memories with this topic nod biggrin

"Are You The Woman" is a GREAT song! Listen closely, and you'll hear a young Whitney Houston singing background vocals. That's her singing "take this love" near the end too.
