Sammy Davis Jr.'s widow dies at age 65

Sammy Davis Jr.'s widow dies at age 65

LOS ANGELES: Altovise Joanne Gore Davis, a dancer and actress and the widow of Sammy Davis Jr., has died. She was 65.

Davis died Saturday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after suffering a stroke, said Amy Malone, a publicist for her family.

Davis worked her way to the Broadway stage where she met the legendary entertainer when they performed together in the musical "Golden Boy" in 1967.

She became his third wife when they wed in 1970 (Davis was previously married to dancer Loray White and Swedish actress Mai Britt). They adopted a son and remained together until Davis died of throat cancer in 1990 at the age of 64.

After his death she was left to sort through his multimillion IRS tax debt and oversee his troubled estate. Last year, she sued two former business partners in federal court, claiming they tricked her into signing away the rights to the estate. The suit is pending.

Davis is survived by her son Manny.

A private memorial service was being planned.

I really hated the way she was treated after Sammy died by all the greedy grave robbers that wanted his money. I just hope that her experience taught her to take care of things better than Sammy did so now their son won't have to endure what she did.
I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

May Ms. Altovise Joanne Gore Davis R.I.P because she deserves it.

For whatever reason Mr. Davis could never get his finances in order; From the mid 60's he had issue(s) with the IRS. The IRS knew way before his death/illness he owed millions. Once they "tag" you, they keep up with your tax filings or the lack there of until death. IRS just choose to wait after he died to come in and take damn near everything. At one point Ms. Davis said she was homeless...

I guess Altovise lived well when Sammy was alive, but she sure paid the price after he died with the way she was treated! That can take you out before your time. sad

Thank you to you guys.

The credit goes to The Man Upstairs.

All I do if I find something interesting is share it.

I don't want to speak badly about someone who has just passed away.

This story will give some insights on the bad side of human nature and kind of an undertext on why Black men stop dating Black women.

I can explain why the book coveys that but I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't read the book.

You'll read it and constantly say: "No she didn't?"

Please stop with your non-stop black woman hating B.S. Some brothers don’t date black woman because they are Uncle Toms.
Some date woman from other races because they like variety. Take this bull to some hip-hop site were it will be appreciated and next time you want to talk about Sammy talk about his involvement with the mob, drugs and extreme self-hatred.

I've read the book and while I will agree that it gives insight into the bad side of human nature. I will not agree that it gives a "kind of an undertext on why Black men stop dating Black women!"

Thanks. I definitely didn't mean to offend anyone.

But in almost every Sammy bio there is that theme on how Sammy dealt with living in a so-called black and white world and his relationships with the ladies and his reasons for it.
