Which version of "Rock N Roll Hoochie Koo" does it 4 yall? Johnny's version is straight forward blues/rock which I like, while Derringer added the background vocals which I think gives it a fuller sound....

...The Johnny Winter And studio version has always been my preference.

The dual guitars and Winter's vocals are superior imo.

The Rick Derringer solo version (the one most folks are familiar with) takes too much of the edge off (female bg vocals, horns) and aims it in a more Pop direction.

I love this song. They play it still on rock stations. I dig Edgar's Frankenstein song. Edgar and Johnny are Great along with Rick. WNEW in NYC would play them alot especially in the 80's.

Dang, I'm not sure I'd ever heard Johnny's version. It's good, and it would have been a classic on its own, but I like Rick's version best.

I like both versions...have seen it performed three ways:
Johnny Winter And, The Edgar Winter Group featuring Rick Derringer and Rick Derringer as a solo act.

Johnny Winter and Rick Derringer are both excellent guitar players,a nd groslly underrated. Derringer can play jazz, funk, rock, blues and country. His psuedo jazz album was really nice from a few years back.
