Blast From The Past: Deon Estus' Heaven Help Me This was one of my favorite jams back in the fifth grade! Before I watched the video I honestly thought George Michael was singing this song. However, you can hear him doing the background vocals.

George Michael composed this song and gave it to Estus, his former bassist. [Edited 3/10/09 14:39pm]

I had no idea this song gets mentioned frequently on the org. However, this is one of my favorite jams of all time. This came out when pop and R&B music was still good.

I used to think it was George Micheal too. I remember this video, but it's vague for me. I was in the 8th/9th grade during this time.

Deon Estus was actually Marvin Gaye's bass player before he was George Michael's.....betcha didn't know that one! Did ya???
Anyways I recently bought a used copy of this album....and it's your typical...sorta....big haired eighties type of record.

I'm gonna have to find his album."Heaven Help Me" is a superb song but I also love the song "Spell",which has an Earth Wind and Fire vibe.I heard this song on the radio a few times in 1989 but I had no idea who the artist was! Thanks to Youtube,I finally discovered that it is Deon Estus...

"Heaven help me" is by far the best song on the album. Been years since I played it to be fair, but its not that good really. Particually to anymore looking for more songs like "heaven help me".
I still remember "blue envelope", which was a nice fluffy pop song.

It's mentioned in this documentary I've got on DVD-R. Taped it off TV a few years ago. I was gonna say I thought he played on "In Our Lifetime," but....nah he didn't. I think he just played on his tour in Belgium at that time.

I think he just played on his tour in Belgium at that time. Yeah, he played on Marvin's 1981 "comeback" tour in Belgium. This was about the time he was finalizing a settlement to leave Motown and go to another label. Oddly enough this little gig was called "The Heavy Love Affair Tour" after one of Marvin's last Tamla-Motown releases from the IN OUR LIFETIME album.

Deon Estus is a badass musician. He started out with a Detroit band called Brainstorm who were signed to Tabu Records, from there he toured with Marvin Gaye and after that came George Michael and WHAM!
This is Deon rehearsing with Marvin Gaye in 81' I Want You-Marivn Gaye

I've got that on 12inch vinyl somewhere in my collection. Belita Woods of P-Funk fame was their lead singer. The B-Side of that single is funky as hell though.
