It might as well have been about Howard Hewitt for all we know!
But all of that aside, this is still a 80's classic.

Well, I don't really know that much about Shalamar other than their music "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Its an overused term but this was one of the underrated jams back in 89. Hearing it again is a good thing, I need to go CD hunting for Jody Watley. Jeux Sans Frontiers

It could have been.I always laugh at this interview that Jody did in 1995,where she said... "He (Howard) told me that I would never make it as a solo artist. But then when I won the 1987 Grammy for best new artist,he didn't even call to congratulate me" she was being serious, but that comment sounds funny to me,lol.

I am surprised by the statements that jody and howard weren't close.
From everything i've ever seen jody say about shalamar it was always positive. I know she would always talk about how smooth howard's voice was compared to the first lead singer they had. Maybe there was group tension at times. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

They were probably close in the early years, but the relationship deteriorated as the group became more popular. There was alot of tension in 1983 during the recording sesssions for 'The Look' album.Howard was becoming a dictator and tried to control everything.Jody and Jeffrey angrily left the group just as they were enjoying their first crossover hit "Dead Giveaway",which even got MTV exposure.According to Jody, there was no point in staying. "I suppose we could have stayed together and done a few more albums, but we would have been just going through the motions",she said. When Jody announced that she was leaving,Howard told her that she would never make it on her own.I recall a very bitter 1995 interview in USAToday where Jody made it clear that she would not participate in a Shalamar reunion.Awhile back,Howard appeared on one of our local radio stations and of course,he was asked about a possible reunion. He said that he and Jeffrey want to do it,but Jody is the one who is refusing.
