When I first heard "I Can Dream About You" on the radio, I didn't think he was black either. But seeing those black guys lip syncing it in the music video made me think I was wrong because I was seeing a totally different image than what I was expecting to see. Funny related topic: The "singer" in the group (Stoney Jackson) was offered a real record deal back in 1985. The label thought he was the one really singing in that video. Plus he had the whole "P-Purple Rain" look going for him too.
Once the label heard him sing, couldn't sing (and it wasn't really him) the deal fell through. Too bad that didn't happen to Terrence Howard.

If it had been a few years later, the label would have kept Dan Hartman's voice on the record but put Stoney Jackson's picture on the album cover, release the album under Stoney's name, and had him lip sync over Dan's vocals in the music videos and television appearances. SoulAlive said: some interesting trivia about this song...
In early 1984,Dan Hartman offered this song to Daryl Hall and John Oates. He presented it to them but they declined it.Their new album was already finished and they had no room for it.Plus,in those days, they pretty much wrote and produced their own material. In 2004,Hall and Oates finally recorded this song, changing the lyrics slightly, and it appeared on their 'Our Kind Of Soul' CD.Here's a live performance by Hall and Oates... [Edited 3/19/09 4:22am] Actually it sounds like Daryl forgot the lyrics and was making it up as he went along!

The best thing about Dan is that he never acted out to make you think a certain way. He was just himself. He was all about the music too.

Hey, nice little jam right there. Takes me back to a time I don't want to mention for fear of showing I'm old. But I guess it's too late. Still not telling. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

Awesome. It came out the same year as Purple Rain and Rick Springfield's Hard to Hold movie. Willem DeFoe is fucking hot and scary in that movie. all zombie pasty white but ready to kick some ass. bill paxton was in it and that smokey williams dude or whatever. some black teen idol i think he was. Anyway lots of unknowns who would come to be known. Even the flashdance chick is in it. And yes, that Dan Hartman song is hot but not as hot as Make Me Lose Control.
