I like the song too. Seemed tailor made for the UK pop stations rather then the US, and the chart action proved it. Track rocks alot more then about half the top 40 melancholy bollocks in the US at the time. All about glam and having fun in the UK at the time. This song reflects that.

Looking at charts back then, US pop music seemed quite po faced and dull. Usually I much prefer US artists and US charts, but UK had it going on back in the early 70's. Bowie, T Rex, Slade, Mud, Free etc...alot of cheese, but its fun stuff! Who were big sellers in the US at this time? Carpenters, America, crosby stills and nash etc... All boring LOL. Sweeping statment obviously, but thats my general feeling.
