90s Grunge Classic: "Jeremy" by Pearl Jam A cornerstone of the Grunge music canon and a damn good song, eerily prophetic

Based on a true incident...One of the greatest songs ever written. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

I heard this wasn't based on a true incident, that it was just something Pearl Jam said to pique interest in the song "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

The song is based on a boy named Jeremy Wade Delle, who took his life in front of his English class on the morning of January 8, 1991. Eddie Vedder read about the killing in an article and decided to write about it. So, yes it is true. Also, the video that we all know and love, is not the original video. That one was filmed and rejected by the record company. It is on the net however and is a little different from the released version. Awesome song. It's hard to chose between it and "Black" for personal favorite from Ten.
"Jeremy" almost makes the crap rock music would become worth it.

I worked in a record store during this period, and I think the whole grunge thing was a dark moment in our collective cultural history. But, yeah, songs like "Jeremy" remain as rare bright spots. Cool song. [Edited 3/15/09 16:17pm] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου
