The LET'S GET IT ON deluxe edition: the best deluxe edition I've ever heard so far... I didn't think Marvin's Let's Get It On album couldn't get any better than it already did, but apparently, after getting the deluxe edition set and hearing all of the instrumentals, the alternate cuts and songs from the Let's Get It On sessions that didn't make the album including sessions from the You're the Man LP, plus the first recorded live version of "Come Get to This" (which Marvin performed in the song's original version before he spiced it up for the come-on to "Let's Get It On"), it was amazing by the time I got to the end of it. I'm particularly fond of the Willie Hutch tracks. I did hear Marvin & Willie worked on an album but at the last minute, Marvin decided to shelve that to focus on the final product that became Let's Get It On not to mention he was working with Diana Ross (in separate studios, mind you) with the Diana & Marvin project and then the Trouble Man album so Marvin was working nonstop between 1972 and 1973.
I've been playing the album nonstop since yesterday! My favorite unreleased cuts are: "Where Are We Going" "The World Is Rated X" The first alternate cut of "You're the Man" ...and the Willie Hutch joints "Try It You'll Like It" and "I'm Gonna Give You Respect" Also honorable notice to the Monitors & Originals' versions of "Just to Keep You Satisfied" and The Miracles recording of Marvin's "I Love You Secretly"...

Where Are We Going is an incredible track It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

I'm amazed the song had two different versions though it wasn't much different. There's more ad-libs in the deluxe edition version than on the Very Best of Marvin Gaye (2001) CD that also features the same song. "The World is Rated X" is also an alternate version of the one issued on Marvin's Anthology set. The two alternate versions of "You're the Man" are great.

I love this deluxe edition! I prefer I Want You because I prefer that album, but you can't go wrong with deluxe Marvin. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Yep, Timmy84, I agree, this deluxe edition is superb. But I think the Pet shop Boys re-releases are very good as well!
I'm glad they put the songs from the You're The Man sessions. But when have Life's A Opera and My Last Chance been recorded? My Last Chance is such a bitter-sweet song, I totally love it!

I aint heard this deluxe addition, but i co-sign the Pet Shop Boys deluxe re-releases. Superbly produced in every respect from artwork, to sleeve notes to bonus tracks - near perfect. Someone should send Prince those re-issues so he can see what a good deluxe edition is. Maybe itll inspire him to put out his own!

The whole concept of "remasters/re-issues" mean nothing to Prince

The whole concept of "remasters/re-issues" mean nothing to Prince I know - the fact he wont even play the music to something like Head anymore is rubbish.I cant ever imagine him re-releasing 'Dirty Mind'. If it happens itll have to be simply a project he signs off on - and allows some expert fan to compile - like Alan Leeds did with James Brown.....hell maybe alan leeds should do it.

At this point, I'll take a remastered album from Prince. It's a shame we are stuck with such a bad version of SOTT with horrible artowrk. Whoever did that album (mastering on cd and transferring the artwork for the cd) needs their asses shot and hung. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I think people shoudl releasetheir old stuff as soon as possible. The Beatles are late too. Throughout the 00s the albums released on their original release dates and a new mastering and good artwork with liner notes would have been cool. But who's gonna buy CDs now?

People will continue to buy it. You must remember, music formats change about every 15 to 20 years. I'm sure, in a few years, downloads will be down and some other technology will come along. Therefore, people will always buy music and artists will continue to get paid. Besides, I don't care when artists like The Beatles or Prince or whoever decide to invade thier backcatalog, it will sell. New fans are born everyday. I'm gonna get I Want You again because... well I'm afraid the copy I got is scratched. I'm gonna get the deluxe edition of In Our Lifetime again and then Here, My Dear.

Do you have to be dead to get a brilliant deluxe version outta Motown? The Marvin re-releases/deluxe versions are crazy compared to Diana's and Rick's. Kinda pisses me off.

Not always. Bruce Springsteen released a 30th anniversary deluxe edition of "Born to Run" in 2005 and Elton John released his 30th anniversary deluxe edition of "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road". Seems Rick had full masters to his work and his people wouldn't do nothing unless they agreed to it. Same with Stevie.
