Funk Fans of the Music: Non-Prince Section: Which new March release are you more excited about......

The new Prince album set or the new Rick James DVD that will contain old performances? They both are coming out around the same time. It's Prince vs. Rick James all over again, the 2009 version.

The Rick James DVD.... by a fucking mile. After hearing "Disco Jellyfish" on Prince's new site, I'm not really looking forward to any new music from him.
It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

I didn't know Rick had a DVD coming out this month. Cool stuff but I'm excited about Prince more.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

That's not going to be on any of the CD's.

Prince hasn't done anything really funky in a LONG time. I don't care much for that pseudo funk bullshit he's been doing his past few CDs.
So, I'll take Rick James for "teh win".

I gotta see about that Rick James. I'll probably skip Prince. The few snippets I heard of "Planet Earth" didn't exactly move me.

I want a raw sounding rock album from Prince, no slick production, and ditch the damn funk/rb sound for a bit. Its time, im sick of the Future Baby Mama's and Incense and Candles, and Life O the Party, lets get some raw rockplaying, solos, nothing aimed to be commercial, like a Chaos and Disorder.

From what? Indigo Nights? Nah. Ragtime jazz doesn't substitute for funk even when you add a straight beat to it. Dude lost his funk vibe years ago. Last funky shit I remember from Prince was probably some of the Exodus tracks but that was mainly on Sonny and Michael B.

I don't think I have that one. But see, that's my point. The original version isn't enough to get me interested enough to care.
He's had moments here and there but on the whole, his shit doesn't really entertain me anymore.

I'm extremely excited about the Rick James DVD.I may even have some type of party where I invite friends over to view it with me lol

As for Prince....I'm gonna take a wait and see approach with his new albums.I wasn't too thrilled with 'Planet Earth'.It's been years he's done an album that truly knocked me out.

Well he needs to ditch the whole "funk vibe" at this point, for a little while, i mean he's been in it for the most part since the 90's, this semi rb over-produced clean sound. Which is strange since Prince, as told by Shelia E, never cared what production sounded like, he was always anti miking things, making sure levels were good etc..

I'm excited about both, but I'm more excited about P. I say that only because I've been waiting for a multi-disc of new material from P. We haven't had one since Emancipation (unless you classify CB as new material).

Rick is cool, and I will buy that DVD also, but P takes the cake anyway. How old was Rick when he lost his "funk" card? So many keep saying P lost his (which I can't see how someone could say that), when did Rick lose his? I would say with the Reflections album. That song "17" was a mess. Not to mention the "funk" that came out after that album. Glow? The Flag? I'll take TRC anyday over those 2 albums.

Yeah, because Rick's DVD is going to be a bunch of "hey day" performances that people want to see. Rick at his fonkiest! Slick Rick (the original, that is) is gone and therefore he's not around to fuck up and get worse...unlike some other artists...I won't mention any names. Some people get better at different points in their careers.
