List all your Japanese pressed/Japan only CD's etc....

These can be anything. CD's, singles, vinyl. Even japan only releases.

Heres some of mine: (as is a regular thing with Japanese pressings, a few of these have bonus tracks)

Iam sure I own a few others too.

Japan only albums:

Thats it for now...

Do you get them online or are there stores where you live that have them?

I 've bought some myself online over the years but the price holds me back. I'm checking the SHM-CD re-releases but I still haven't found anything that justifies the price. I'm really curious to know if they sound that good.

Not sure if they soun better, but people say they do a little bit?

There is a store that use to be near me that did japan imports. They have gone now though sad

You always get lyrics and linear notes like old school vinyl. Of course, the notes are in Japanese mad

Often get nice coloured booklets and pictures on Japan only albums. Japanese still take care with their CD's.

sad They do. I just sit and wait on ebay. Took me literally years to get my Jay Gruska album at an affordable price (I.e under £50). In this case, it was released as a CD only in Japan. I just had to have the CD in this case, because I knew I would love it. That Gruska album can sell for £80 buy it now price. Not worth it!

The Japanese editions of albums are usually better in packaging

The "Master Sound" edition of Thriller

some of my favorites

Whats this like? I know it got an HDCD release (remember those?). Looks pretty sweet. I noticed the "thriller" 2001 remaster does sound damn good, as does the "bad" remaster (even with the odd silly edit here and there confused ). Looks like Michael spent alot of care on those remasters.

Alyssa Milano and Edward Furlong had music careers???!! eek

How bizarre!

So what's the deal with the Japanese pressings of some albums? How come they always get the best versions and the bonus tracks? I've seen a few Madonna ones kicking about over the years and I've always been intrigued and tempted to pick a few up.

Alyssa's flat, uninterested voice is quite charming in a bizarre way. That and its covered up with layers of production. That always helps. Its less annoying then Kylies voice anyway. Edward has a terrible voice, but I can tolerate it on a few tracks. His cover of "people are strange" is a real guilty pleasure of mine.

This was released sometime in the late 80s I think

A friend translated the French description from MJStreet

A Master Sound Edition is a specific pressing of a record.
A normal LP is industrially pressed at high speed (several times the normal speed of a LP).
A Master Sound Edition is a record which was pressed at the normal reading speed, which is 33 1/3 rotations by minute. It gives the record an extremely pure sound quality, close to the CD sound quality.

I had a mp3 of Billie Jean from this edition but didn't listen to it

I never understood why so many of the classic American soul music reissues are only released to the Japan market but not over here in the states?

I have Japan reissues from:
Chaka Khan
Deniece Williams
Evelyn King
Phyllis Hyman
Stephanie Mills
Alicia Myers
Vanity 6
The Family
Appollonia 6
Cheryl Lynn
SOS Band
Dionne Warwick (Arista)

Just to name a few.

Yeah...20 years ago. 'Raindance' (1990) was only released in Japan. His second solo album 'Tomorrow' came out in 2007. Both are really excellent pop records. Don't know why he went into hiding for 2 decades. Clark is a very talented guy.

No. The Family performed one concert together right before the album came out, and it was filmed professionally, but not available on DVD. That DVD has the concert and a really bad transfer of the "Screams Of Passion" video. smile
