One of the greatest songs of all time: "What a Fool Believes" by the Doobie Brothers "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

I swear the Doobies don't get nearly enough recognition as they deserve 4 the music they laid down (hint, hint Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame).....I heard that a lot of the Doobies old fans were turned off when Michael McDonald joined the band, but they must've forgot that him and Jeff Baxter were taught Versatility 101 by Professors Donald Fagen and Walter Becker of Steely Dan University.

It is a deceptively sad song. I love it. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

Check out this parody of the making of What a Fool Believes from the Youtube series Yacht Rock. I thought this was really funny.

George Michael's version. I don't think his phrasing is great, but this is a rare example of a perfectly written song, where no matter the singer, the song is still great. Aretha Franklin also did a version of this, but I can't find it on youtube.

This is a brilliantly written song and it's a big sentimental favorite.
The lyrics really get to me now. It's a great example of a song from a time when lyrics meant something.

That was funny... This one's funnier!! How Michael McDonald's "I Keep Forgettin'" was sampled for Warren G's "Regulators"!! [Edited 3/7/09 23:20pm]

Michael wrote the song, in fact. So Cary Simon did a cover of You Belong To Me. Did the Doobie Bros. back her on this track?

Did the Doobie Bros. back her on this track? The tune was co-written by Michael McDonald and Carly Simon. It was recorded by The Doobie Brothers (Livin' on the Fault Line) in 1977 and then by Simon (Boys in the Trees) in 1978. If you check the credits on Simon's album, it seems that the musicians included everybody but The Doobie Brothers. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. It is a pretty great song. It gives me warm fuzzy feelings from when I was a kid. "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven
