Any fans of this album? I just got into it recently and it's really blowing me away. So intensely personal. Really a remarkable record.

it's pretty amazing.

I dig it. One either loves it or hates it, no in between, in my experience.

You should get the expanded edition with the "remodelded" sessions from 1976-77! The alternate instrumental to "It's Not Enough" is killer.

Another reason why I felt like that was cuz Prince even said, back in 1998 "You can't listen to Marvin Gaye and not be influenced."

Hearing this song for the very first time only futher proved the point.

I'm not diggin' it. It's a personal statement and art... but the melodies are weak. sorry, just mo.

I copped this CD several years ago because I kept hearing how great it was. I just didn't get it. And I usually love songs about pain, heartache and sadness. But, these songs didn't do anything for me.

I like "When Did You Stop Loving Me..." best. I find songs that are heavily personal and autobioagraphic the highest form of music, but if I would not know the lyrical content, if I would not know it's Marvin Gaye it would not grab me.
I find even the hardcore fans must admit, the album is not easy to listen to and so far I didn't fidn the inspiration to "get" this album in a more intellectual way.

I think if this album had come from Stevie Wonder, or Sly Stone, it would be considered differently. But I agree with you, because it's Marvin Gaye making this album. Marvin was supposed to be a lover, and sad prophet, but never a sad lover.

I know. Some times you have to do that. I can think of several songs I didn't like the first time around and ended up going back to them several years later and I was like, "Oh my God! This is a brilliant song! Why did it take me so long to get this?"

I agree completely. For me, it's been mostly about discovering things I missed. My "current" music purchases have slowed to a trickle in the last couple years. It seems like I'm more and more interested in older stuff.

i'm sorry. but this one album is better than Prince's ENTIRE CATALOG. and it's not even close.

'Time to get it together' is the greatest of all Marvin Gayes songs. I keep expecting to hear it crop up on a kanye west album. Hopefully this wont happen.

The key chang in this song is immense
