your claim that these things are not related, that the personal and the cultural have nothing to do with each other, in my mind, is also a gross simplification and absolutely incorrect but WHATEVER!!! I don't get your point. What are you saying because someone like Tori is famous and influences people, she shouldn't wear makeup, wear interesting clothes, do her hair, watch her diet and exercise because that's a cultural influence that's likely to lead to obsession with looks. The culture reflects things not just influences people. Like it or not, a lot of women are interested in looking nice and having a great body. You don't like wearing makeup or staying in shape. That's your choice. But don't tell me I can't wear makeup, like fashion or go to the gym. And don't tell Tori Amos it's wrong to have plastic surgery or Botox if that's her personal choice and how she wants to look. Live you life how you want, but accept that everyone is different and other people will make different choices than you do. omg I'm not telling anyone what not to do. I love to look good, I love to shop for clothes and jewelry, I am in great shape, and I love wearing tight clothes that show off my body, so I don't know where you get your information about me. I was simply citing the fact (and believe, I regret it) that I have hardly worn makeup or obsessed about my weight to explain that I never fell into the typical female mindset, to explain what may seem an extremist position in my views. My personal point of view is that surgically altering one's body for cosmetic purposes only, GOES TO FAR. I ACCEPT THAT OTHER PEOPLE MAY NOT SHARE THIS VIEW. I have multiple times asserted the fact that my point of view is not the be-all and end-all and have worked hard in this dialogue to explain that fact. Please read my statement in Reply #23 on this thread: Sure, women are free to do what they want. I am not in the position to have my photograph publicized through the mass media and my career does not depend on it. So I guess I am not in a position to judge the actions of others. and I am not requiring that all women bow to some feminist standard. Which part of those statements don't you understand? I ACCEPT THAT PEOPLE MAKE OTHER CHOICES, but am I not allowed to express my own point of view, which is ALSO A PERSONAL CHOICE? ugh!!!

there's a bunch of stuff floating around youtube...if you hit in tori amos sxsw, you get a bunch of performances. curtain call, lady in blue, and mary jane are the new ones. she sounds awesome! An individualist is a man who lives for his own sake and by his own mind; he neither sacrifices himself to others nor sacrifices others to himself...

I enjoy Tori as an artist. But I think she could get her points across better if she sang about Love. It's universal and what our would desperately needs. I sometimes get put off by her ideology but love her nonetheless.

She does sing about love a lot! She talks about political things in interviews, but most of her songs aren't overtly political but talk more about relationships.
