By the way,can someone explain to me exactly what Michael Henderson's song "Wide Receiver" was all about? Is it a sexual innuendo,or a drug reference?

"Thanks...Mean Joe...for what...and take that smelly t-shirt with you" I think the song more so contains humorous sexual innuendo than anything else...with lines like sometimes.."sometimes you feel like {a nut} sometimes you don't. Henderson was poking fun at a lot of famous t.v commercials during that time..like the Mean Joe Greene Coca-Cola commercial with him and that little boy, plus the Almond Joy with nuts candy bar commercial. Me and some of my buddies are currently converting all of my favorite late 70's and 80's funk/disco 45 rpm records into CDs{through downloading..weshould find this one and download it}. I'll have to pull out my 45 r.p.m. of "Wide Receiver" and see can I hear other sexual innuendos.

More 1980 jams...
***Brothers Johnson-Stomp!!! ***Slave-Watching You{one of my all time favorite funk jams} ***Jermaine Jackson-Let's Get Serious ***Diana Ross-I'm Coming You{Diana intended this song to be a person that finally decide to bring to fruition all of the potential that is inside of her...but the gay community took the song and made it their anthem..."I'm coming out. I want the world to know...Got to let it show"

There's a hilarious part in the song (extended version) where a gay-sounding guy says "Yoo--hoo,any of you fellas need a tight end?"
But,a few other parts of the song make me think they're talking about drugs. There's a few references to "smoking a joint" throughout the song.

Other jams from 1980...
"Is This The Best (Bop-Doo-Wah)" The LA Boppers "Look Up" Patrice Rushen "Shake Your Pants" Cameo "Fantastic Voyage" Lakeside "Behind The Groove" Teena Marie "Don't Push It,Don't Force It" Leon Haywood "For Those Who Like To Groove" Ray Parker Jr. & Raydio "Humpin" The Gap Band "Got To Be Enough" Con Funk Shun "More Bounce To The Ounce" Zapp

yep it was about Sex,Drugs&Rock&Roll all rolled into one with that song.Michael Henderson started really Young doing Sessions work with Stevie Wonder around 17-18 Years Old Before Miles Davis brought Him over too His thing.Michael Henderson did alot of Cool things Musically with Norman Conners,Phyllis Hyman&Roberta Flack.Very Rounded Cat&Badd Ass on BASS IMHO.But,a few other parts of the song make me think they're talking about drugs. There's a few references to "smoking a joint" throughout the song. mistermaxxx

Do you remember his 1981 follow-up hit "Sling Shot"? Very funky too! And that summer,he had a nice ballad with Phyllis Hyman "Can't We Fall In Love Again",which is one of my favorites.Did you know that in 1976,he gave The Dramatics a big hit with "Be My Girl"? He recorded his own version and released it as a single at the end of '76,but the Dramatics version was much more successful.

I loved how that brotha played on Miles Davis' Aghartaalbum. OOO WEEE. The playing on that album was tight like a virgin. I also liked his slow jams like "In The Night Time" and "Be My Girl".
