One of my favorite late-80s albums. This album was part of my 1987 soundtrack! I wore this record out.In the summer of '87,I was jamming to this record everyday.I like every song on it,except for the draggy ballad ("Someone To Love Me For Me").It's not a bad song but I think it slows down the album. My favorites are "Everything Will B-Fine","A Face In The Crowd","Lost In Emotion" and the Prince/Minneapolis-like "I Promise You".Producers Full Force did their best work here...they brought the JAMS! I also like the 60s/Supremes-styled vibe that they brought to a few songs. An amazing album!

Last year,I bought a 2-CD set featuring 'Spanish Fly' and their 1989 follow-up 'Straight To The Sky'.While the former is a masterpiece, the follow-up is disappointing. It's an over-long album of New Jack Swing grooves that didn't really age well.A few songs stand out,but it's not an album that I can listen to all the way through.

You are going to love that Ebonee Webb album. It is pure "Old Prince". Andy is a four letter word.

During the summer of 1987 my family had a family reunion in Hilton Head, SC. Every radio format there besides country was spinning lost in emotion. I like the 12 inch version of everything will b-fine. Someone to love me for me was just alright for me too. I actually like the ballad kiss your tears away off of straight from the sky better although the album was disappointing. Don't laugh at my funk

That's exactly what it sounded like. It came out right around the time of The Time's "Get It Up". Everyone thought "Something About You" was Prince's new song at the time because it sounded that much like Prince from the voice, right down to the music. Then, everyone thought "Get It Up" was Prince's new song. When "Controversy" came out a few weeks later, we were starting to wonder if it was really Prince or was it another imposter to fool us. SoulAlive, Ebonee Webb is definately one that you need to get. . . . [Edited 3/10/09 14:51pm] Andy is a four letter word.

I like anybody wanna dance from this album too. I'm about
to do some research on these guys. It seems like back in the day a schoolmate of mine had an ebonee webb album before this one with the band dressed up in suits on the front cover and the lead singer was standing in the middle. It seemed like they had a song that sounded like prince's uptown. I heard these guys on the radio a few times but they were buried behind a lot of other r&b bands then. I didn't even realize they had a connection with the barkays and allen jones back then. Don't laugh at my funk

I had always assumed that this was the first album by Ebonee Webb but it wasn't. A few years ago, there was a very cool orger by the name of 100MPH who used to absolutely amaze me with his knowledge of rare music. I mean, he was overseas but he even knew about the local bands from Jackson, MS from back in the day such as Freedom, Sho-Nuff, and Wynd Chymes. I don't know where 100MPH disappeared to but I wish he would come back. Anyway, he posted a picture of an Ebonee Webb album that was from the late 1970s. He said that very first album didn't sound anything like the material that Ebonee Webb released in the 1980s. I didn't even realize they had a connection with the barkays and
allen jones back then. I could have told you that. . . . [Edited 3/11/09 6:18am] Andy is a four letter word.

I don't have the album but I have a copy of the song "Too Hot To Be Cool" and it continues on with that Prince falsetto and music. I've been looking for the album for years. . . .
