i need some suggestions for new music

I'm trying to broaden my ipod library. could someone suggest to me some new songs and artist to try out

first let me tell who i don't need. The temptations, the stylistics, earth wind and fire, the jackson 5, michael jackson, any other the other jacksons, stevie wonder, any of the other motown acts, james brown, prince, new edditon whitney houstan, luther vandross , madoona, george michael,
but anyway, I am not the kind of person who only listens to one type of genre, i like all music, even classical, If it is beautiful, sounds good and has a good melody i usually like it. i don't like singers who scream, i prefer male voices but will listen to female voices. i also like music with good hooks and bridges.
so basically music that's "pretty" and has good a good melody, it can be uptempo or slow doesn't matter. Please no hip hop, and especially any of these pretty boy r and b singers of today (ie. usher, neyo) i would just love some good suggestions

Well start with the last 3 a-Ha albums.... Minor Earth Major Sky, Lifelines, and Anlaogue, though they will be tough to find do to being imports only. Grab Elton John's "Songs from the West Coast" a masterpiece. Rick Springfields current "venus in overdrive" cant get catchier and more hooks than that one. Harry Connick Jr's 1996 "star turtle", on the female side, Norah Jones pretty much anything, but for me the current "not too late" and the first "come away wtih me". For a more singer/songwriter appeal, go with Ryan Adams "easy tiger", Magne F "a dot of black in the blue of your bliss". And from more great bands, the latest u2, also INXS "Elegantly Wasted" from 1997. just a start

"We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

Who are your favorites? Was it that list you said you don't need?
