Class act, talented, friendly, and a monster musician.
I was lucky enough to meet him and he is as humble as can be. His whole team is fantastic, surrounds himself with great people too. Music is the best...

I always wondered if you liked Steve Vai. He's got to be one of my favorite musicians. He's so much more than a great guitar player. I think his devotion to music in general really sets him apart from the other "meedly meedly" 80's shredders.
I have always seen him as having kinship with Prince. They have many of the same virtues and the same flaws (see Sex & Religion), and the same themes in their music. Passion & Warfare is maybe my favorite guitar album of all time. Blow By Blow would give it a good fight however! My Legacy

The Riddle has long been one of my top Steve Vai tunes. But part of the appeal may be where it comes on the album. The whole Passion & Warfare album is such a dense & complicated affair. Something that takes about 30 listens to begin to comprehend.
He's always gone beyond metal, as evidenced by the 1:45 mark on this track My Legacy

Anybody that can make the cut with Frank Zappa you've gotta give it up. It was his compositions that I couldn't seem to get with. They'll get a re-listen. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

My favorite Vai Solo: Here is another kewl Vai solo. "The first time I saw the cover of Dirty Mind in the early 80s I thought, 'Is this some drag queen ripping on Freddie Prinze?'" - Some guy on The Gear Page

Here's something that to me displays the side that he shares with Zappa. A goofy song, but something not many musicians could pull off.

His tunes are generally a bit too experimental for my tastes... my favorite album is "Alien Love Secrets"... it's the most stripped down, least experimental one... which is probably why I like it the most. He's got a good voice, but I still wish he wouldn't sing... just let the guitar do the talking.

This is one of my faves. "The Boy From Seattle" (Jimi Hendrix tribute) from Alien Love Secrets. This is not played live BTW:

I guess it just isn't up to the level of the playing, so it sounds even worse in comparison. Alien Love Secrets is one of the few albums I don't have. actually. My Legacy

Yeah, I think a lot of people didn't get Alien Love Secrets for some reason. Which is why people keep thinking that Tender Surrender video is him playing live. If they heard the album they'd know the audio is exactly the same.
