I think after the early 90's dancehall/reggae boom, everybody who was large here in the states went back 2 touring, cause in the U.K. Canada, and the Carribean, the sound systems is a way of life

This was due to the comments he made about the Buju Banton song, "Boom, Bye, Bye". These comments were made on a British talk show and soon after he was dropped by his label. I found some footage about that.
Here's the actual song: In case you don't know, "Batty Boy" is Jamaican for "Faggot."

Pirates Anthem was on heavy rotation in my household in the very early 90s ( 1992 ? 1993 ? ) Still love that song. Shabba Ranks and Cocoa Tea and Home Tea did a couple of songs in the same vein at that time but I can´t remember the names of them. They sounded pretty similar to Pirate´s Anthem. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

I remember when VP sent me the promo for this. Being a dj in a gay club I could not play this the song disgusted me. even still I have a few "straight" friends but to me I find this idealism appalling.
