One of my favorite cuts on the Come Get It! album music
It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

I was working at an institution for the mentally retarded (that was the respectful term used back then - now it's probably mentally challenged or learning disabled or something) when this album came out. It was my first job out of High School. There was a little 8-year-old girl named "Mattie" that lived in the cottage where I worked at the time. She was also autistic and would not speak to anyone, but sometimes she would make this little yelping or barking sound, like a little poodle, lol. But everyday when I would see Mattie sitting over in the corner curled up in her little chair, her eyes would light up because she knew I would come sit next to her and sing my special little song...JUST FOR HER.

I would put my arm around her shoulder and sing softly... "Dream Maker, make my dream come true tonight, let me ta a a aa ake her, to the highest heights that we can reach - Dre-eam Maker...". And she would just get so quiet, peaceful and happy, and sometimes would nod right out, lol. Well don't you know, after a month or so, when Mattie would see me, she would very very quietly, but in perfect key, sing ever so softly... "Dream Maker...". The facility was amazed! This little girl that they had written off as never being able to learn how to speak, was now singing that entire first line from "Dream Maker", whenever she saw me walk into the room.

Isn't life wonderful sometimes? May God bless little Mattie, where ever she may be today.

the 'Come Get It' CD is just begging to be remastered, along with most of his other Motown albums.

Folks can talk about Slick Rick being a master funkateer,,,,,but when he wrote them ballads, he put his ass in them music

And yes, its a dirty shame how his early motown albums didn't get remastered yet.

That is one of my favorite songs eva! When I was a kid, it was just so cool to look at the album covers and look at the costumes. For a debut album, didn't his cover looked like he was a star? I mean why don't groups invest in themselves and get some glitter about themselves? Rick,EWF, Isleys they all had the star threads jumping off? WTF happened? Is it not cool to have some costumes anymore? Is it played out? Hell even Cameo had some nice costumes! Especially on that Cameosis album!

But Rick will always be my favorite. And the Ohio Players. They had some nice costumes too.

Dream Maker. It just took me back. Sorry.

You left out The Commodores, Kool & The Gang, The Gap Band, and Captain Sky, lol. I feel the same way, and used to do just like you... sit there and stare at those album covers while I listened to the music. And you're right, those one-piece glittery spandex zip-up numbers were Le Shit, lol. Those outfits meant it was PARTY TIME!!! And no one back then even made mention that those brother's business was all laid-over half-way down their thigh, with those seams only further dividing the crack of their ass! eek (...ever see Fuzzy Haskins performing "Standing On The Verge" in that early P-Funk footage?) lol Man, he was giving that spandex "What For" LOL.

I remember feeling so sad when George Clinton stopped wearing those 8" silver platformed boots that zipped all the way up to his hips, lol (sort of the same way I feel watching prince now wear those flat sneakers) At least Gary Shider hasn't retired his diaper yet, lol. Actually, he probably really needs it these days, lol. Or who can forget Rick James in those cherry apple red thigh high patent leather boots on the cover of Street Songs? In fact, that cover probably marked the end of that look, don't believe FUNK survived much beyond that.

And incidentally, I never got my fill of FUNK. Even when DISCO took over, I wanted the clubs to keep playing that FUNK. Then New Wave and everything else that followed.... I still missed my FUNK! Thank goodness for all the new remasters of so much of the early Funk that even I missed out on. And for the Internet, that helps us find it, and for allowing us all to hook up and reminisce about all that good music and those good times, right here on The Org.

But I guess that's just the way of the world. Somewhere out there, someone wishes Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller had never stopped making new music, back when all the kids were doing The Swing.

Aw, thanks man. You know, I never knew I had so many great stories, but talking about different music on The Org always triggers some memory that I had long since forgot about, and before I realize it; I remember some really cool thing that I was involved with years ago. That's why I love The Org, it's not just about prince , but about the entirety of our collective experiences. I hope The Org never goes away.

As if I didn't already have enough "stuff" tied in with this album in all it's awesomeness, "Hollywood" holds a lot of meaning for me because I actually moved there within a year after that song was released. This music provided the fuel that flew me there. "Mama, sit down for me please..." P-Dogz was gonna make it good in Hollywood.

Shit happens along the way eek ! (Ahh, but HOW it happens, lol)

2)MOTOWN NEEDS TO PUT OUT A "BALLADS COLLECTION ON RICK JAMES
