The new U2 single is a monster.

Believe me, this is really something coming from me. I am the head U2 hater on the board. For me to really like a new song from them. But, I have to be honest with myself and you, Get On Your Boots is a great song. Really a scorcher. About time Bono..lol

Rolling Stone gave the album 5 stars. Yikes.

i don't think it's awful, but i think it's fairly dreary and non-descript. then again, that describes what i think of about 80% of the U2 music I've ever heard. shrug

How is it dreary? It is a pretty upbeat song--striking hard rock guitar, snarky vocal.

sounded pretty average to me.

And not that different from other U2 stuff, why did this one grab your attention?

While I'm not a fan, they've had patches that I've enjoyed over the years. However this doesn't lift my skirt at all. Part of it is the 'pump it up' sound-a-like aspect, but I'd be able to get past that if I found it a little more bracing. It seems very run of the mill to me.

The guitar riff was good, Bono's vocals. Music reminds you of sparse stuff that is really big right now.

Yeah, I like the intro riff... also the video is cool... but Bono's singing and the song is kinda annoying! I expected better, especially after the last album, which I think is great!

Eh. Sounds like Vertigo 2.0, to me. Different beat but same deal.

i remember every once in a while U2 would do something that would make me sit up and pay attention in a "holy crap, is THAT really them???" kinda way. then after hearing it a few times, you started to pick out all the familiar U2 elements and it fit in comfortably with all their other stuff. i haven't gotten that feeling from them since, i dunno, "zooropa"?

First of all U2 is not a singles band, i know some people were saying "oh the song didnt do well", for the most part, U2 is not a commercial singles band, alot of their best stuff was far from radio hits, and everyones "pride and Joy" album "achtung baby"'s first single, "The Fly" went nowhere quickly chartwise, and i remember when it came out, everyone, especially "day one" u2 fans thought it was SHIT, and at that time hated that record, but now for some reason, use that album, that they hated, as a board to bounce their opinions off of.

"Achtung baby" was the first U2 album I really liked! And actually I thought "The Fly" was an amazing first single... a real departure for them!

Zooropa was the last I liked. It was edgy and a bit experimental and the album literally came out of nowhere. I liked a little bit of POP like discotech and Staring at the sun. But after that yawn

Many of the fans hated that album. For me it was the first time I actually paid attention to them.

Yeah... old time fans surely hated that album... but for people like us, who never really paid attention to them before, it was definitely a turn on! wink My mother had the previous albums.. so they were in the house, but nothing made me really want to check them out properly beyond the singles... that changed with "The fly"!

Yeah... I also have to say, that "Achtung Baby" is still my favourite... of course... there are great songs on every album, but as a whole, "Achtung Baby" to me still tops it all!

Thank You....i was trying to think what song it sounded like and Pump it Up is exactly the song.....but far far better than U2's.

I didn't have a problem with 'The Fly,' but I knew it wouldn't do anything as a single, so I wondered why that song as the lead-off.
I didn't buy the album until I heard 'Mysterious Ways.' 'One' was great but 'Mysterious Ways' suggested there was a lot more on there than the three I had heard.
I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

"achtung" though a good album is in the middle of the pack for me of all their records, it has some weak spots, and knowing that alot of the style change was just being ripped off Inxs's "welcome to wherever you are", "Achtung Baby" though a good record, still pales in comparison, despite its "success" chartwise.

He's a character from Little Britain.
"I don't like it" is something he would say.
He's either Lou or Andy - can't remember which one.

I really, really hate Put on Your Boots. And I'm fairly forgiving about U2. It just whiffs of desperation, in a "Incense and Candles" kinda way.
