Entire album sounds like a suicide letter. Beautiful beyond words. I love every note of it. It ranks right up there with some of my favorit Prince albums. Absolutely Brilliant. ... But out of all those Nick Cave just takes the prize for being the most depressed. The songs are all very beautiful but they are sooo way down dark it's unbelievable. Just listen to 'darker with the day' on And We Shall Never Part or "People Just Ain't No Good" on The Boatman's Call. The closing finale of "Hallelujah" with the repeat chorus of "the tears are welling in my eyes again, I need 20 big buckets to catch them in, 20 pretty girls to carry them down, 20 deep holes to burry them in" is so cool that I can't find words to describe it. You just have to hear the song, the hopeless agony of it, the anger and the madness and hear it all ultimately lead to these final lines being repeated over and over again. If I could write music I would hope to be able to write something like this. 20Stars! I'm ranting, aren't I. Sorry for that! Anyway, I hope you feel better soon!!! Thanks! I keep meaning to buy more Nick Cave and apparently always forget. (I somehow only own Murder Ballads...) You've definitely convinced me! I'm gonna need to check out Hallelujah. And I totally agree on the Portishead! |

Hell, yeah, Nick Cave! I'd almost forgotten about "Nobody's Baby Now" off of Let Love In! Anybody else know that song? | |
