That's kinda what is killin me too, with a band like Mazarati being on everyone's list. I yi yi

i know right? that is pretty funny since he only created the sound himself. biggrin

its hard 2 explain but to me prince laid the foundation but he never had a stereotypical sound whereas a lot of artists i mentioned are associated to mainly one style

just listen to 1999 and jesse johnsons review back2back and you will know what i mean

i mainly listen to mplsfunk(/)rock( hence the username) so dont get it twisted

not trying to discredit anyones opinion but i know a lot of others arent clearly obessesed with the sound such as myself and im bound 2 get defensive when questioned.

to pull out the albums
mentioned in here that I own

I played Madame X last night
and I cannot believe
I've had that album
for close to 2 years
and never paid attention...
there was alot of earcandy on there

It's one of the best late-80s R&B albums.I've been hooked on it ever since I got it in 1987.The music is edgy and very interesting, with alot of attitude and funk. It's a shame that they didn't do any more albums. This was a cool concept.

oh no, it's all good i was just teasing but i do think i know what you mean. so who else do you listen from that genre? i love me some klymaxx, krystol, madame x, vanity 6, andre cymone, pointer sisters. i listen this stuff now actually!! i'm still discovering a lot of these artists and i love the stuff they did. funny how a lot of artists from today are trying to duplicate this sound.

Cinema: Cinema 6.

All time classic of Minneapolis funk. Actually, no, scrub that. All time classic minimalist electronic soulful funk album.

Jesse Johnson: Every Shade of Love. The Heaviest and Bestest.

These are utterly essential.

After that, I don't know. 'Life According to Bernadette Cooper' was good, whoever suggested that.

Just downloaded that Cinema album.

It's tremendous. Never heard of them before. It's one of finest MPLSound albums ever.

Thanks for link.

Romeoblu

For some new fresh MPLSound check out The Neon Romeoz.

Their 6 song EP is on Itunes and it's funky.

Really does sound like it was recorded in the mid 1980's

I guess before when I listened, the Mazarati album had too much of a rock sound to me, compared to basically any other "MPLS" album listed here, and I was expecting something different.

But, knowing to expect that rock fusion when I listened to it today, yeah that album is tight. nod

hey, it's Pia Zadora after all lol

a rather typical Jam&Lewis style production in the Janet vibe, several nice beats here and there, but no killer track and no real chemistry. she simply had the money to buy the hippest production team around, but it seems they were not really that inspired.

Yes. It's amazing. Once you get past the SLAMMING MINNEAPOLIS FUNK the ballads are beautiful too.

I agree. The last track is a nice ballad though, but its run of the mill stuff. Excellently produced mind you. If your a huge jam and lewis fan though, its worth a listen. "Dance out of my head" is OK I suppose.
