The Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay has had a £1 million Ferrari that he dedicated a song to smashed up in the early hours of this morning.

The singer, 39, who is almost as well known for his love of cars as his music, was staying at an upmarket seaside resort in Aldeburgh, Suffolk when the car was attacked.

Police were phoned at 2.30am after the Ferrari Enzo, one of only 399 in the world, had windows smashed, sending glass spraying across the road outside the Brudenell Hotel, where Jay Kay was staying.

A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.

Jay Kay, whose real name is Jason Cheetham, bought the car for £1 million in 2003, declaring: “That’s a lot. Even for a rock star!”

He later wrote Black Devil Car in tribute to the car, penning the lyrics: “She’s just a love machine.”

The singer, who became an international star in the mid Nineties when songs Virtual Insanity and Cosmic Girl made the charts around the world, once told an interviewer that “a car is an extension of the owner’s personality.”

With a garage full of Mercedes, Bentleys and Aston Martins, he was asked how all 18 of his cars could reflect his nature and he singled out the Ferrari Enzo, saying : “This car is the closest match yet. It suits my personality — dark and a bit nasty.”

The musician has spent much of his estimated £40 million on his love of cars. He took part in the 2007 Gumball 3000 Rally, a 3000 mile international tour that attracts wealthy car enthusiasts, and is often spotted at racing events.

Yeah make no mistake, this would be ONE of Jay Kay's cars.

Jay Kay is a twat with a huge coke problem and a big mouth. I've met him a few times and he's quite the knobhead.

The new album will be released in late summer (August 2009) but a new single will be released in June.
