One of the greatest songs in the Debarge Canon. Stevie Wonder is on harmonica.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqqxx4mXD7U Debarge opens the show, and you see the incredible line-up of guests announced. What confuses me though is that this particular Motown-event from 1985 is titled as "50 Years of Celebrating Entertainment" ... ...while it currently is Motown's 50th celebration. In 1983 was the famous broadcast of their 25th year in the biz, so by 1985 it was 27 years of recording. I always loved the way EL dressed and danced he is very smooth and entertaing. That show had a lot of GREAT acts, lots of my favorites, did they only perform for 1 minute because that was too many to count that was on that show. I wish I can see that program today. Thanks for the info ! ... Yeah, i never saw that show so a rewind would indeed be cool.

Great new added pics up here. That's a cool photo of Bobby on the couch.
Always grooved on to this jam :

Shango, glad you like the pics. I never did like the song Real Love. New Jack does not suit El. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Yeah, i can imagine that it might've been a harder transition for some artists to adapt their compositions to the newjack style.
It's often a golden rule to stick to a winning formula, because classic Debarge-songs such as "All This Love"/"I Like It" / "In A Special Way" / "Stay With Me" have become very strong standards in their and El's catalogue. Although some synth-accents in "Real Love" sound too plastic imo, there's still something catchy about that groove. I also have been checking the Unsung-special on Youtube, and remembered the quotes of Babyface about him and The Deele touring with Debarge as a support-act for Luther Vandross around 1984, and that he told about the Debarge-mania which happended every night in front of the stage. The quote when he describes when The Deele entered and left the stage : "Ladies & gentlemen !... the Deele !" (modest applause in audience) ... ... while the concert-announcer followed saying : "And now ... DEBARGE !" (thundering crazed shouting of fans immitated by Babyface, lol)

I don't know how many kids Darell and Carol has but according to Mama DeBarge she stated if I'm not mistaken that Tommy has nine kids and Randy has five.

This is music from Andrew Debarge-one of Tommy Debarge's sons; And music from Bobby Debarge III, Bobby's son "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

EL in 2003 at Alicia Keys's record release party. It is nice to see her give him props. Always nice to see new artists pay tribute to their elders. El lookin like Lionel Richie, Jr. asking ...um... how old are you again, baby? "You Know What I like..." LOL ********************************************

Y'all must have caught that TV One show on the DeBarge's... I had to watch it twice. I was *just* too young to realize that was Bobby, the oldest DeBarge on "There'll Never Be", I just always knew the vocal, lol. After the show, I felt so stupid 'of COURSE it HAD to be a DeBarge!"
But my main contribution here .. El's 1992 "In the Storm" CD had a very nice track on it called 'You Know What I Like' featuring my babymomma Chante Moore. Additionally, a song entitled "Tip O' My Tongue" credited to Kirky J. and of course, Paisley Park. So for the couple folks wondering why a DeBarge thread, there is actually a link. Debarge, who?
You mean those fools with one minor hit, a lot of flat vocals and a lack of talent? Its absurd that such a poor band / family like that gets a sticky here. It shows some mods here haven't got the slightest idea what good music is.

"Free" was an independent release and I don't think it did well saleswise, although the reviews were not bad "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Thank you, S! Too bad there was no interview to go with the Chico clip.
Re El, he says he never met Babyface till they worked on El's album, but that isn't right. Babyface was in the Deele and they toured with Debarge as opening acts for Luther in 84. Funny, that El, didn't mention 2 of his other kids who should have been born by the time this interview came out "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."
