Not quite sure why Sony and Michael paired it up with "scream" though as the first single? Maybe it was the "free Willy 2" tie in? Talking of odd ideas around the HIStory period, Sony USA really fucked up not releasing "Earth song". Iam not even a big fan of the song, but damn, it was fucking huge at the time. Didn't Sony USA do some promo remixes of "This time around" radio only singles instead? Idiots.True, US pop at the time was minimal chart wise, but it was worth a gamble with its lavish video and all. Can't get into "this time around". Its kinda average. "Smile" could of been big in the UK. Radio 2 woulda been all over that one. Not a huge fan of it, but his vocals are killer, thanks in part to David Foster again. This Time Around was to be released in the States, but it was cancelled HIStory had several chartworthy songs 2Bad Money This Time Around As I was not in the US at this time, its had for me to see if "Earth song" would of worked, but honestly this was worse then "you rock my world" as a first single. Much worse. Can't see any chart action for "money", but then, I find that song average like "this time around", though at least "money" has something going for it structurally. . "Little susie" could of worked in Europe. Don't laugh but with a lavish video, it could of crossved over at xmas or something. The lullyby feel reminds me of Dutch hit "Gaia" by Valensia. Iam often not fussed if something does not hit big chart wise, but with "They dont care about us" doing only minor damage US wise, and with the total bomb of "stranger in Moscow" (WTF were US radio stations on at this time LOL?), musta made Sony US rethink its priorities with Michael in the US. Hence its lack of marketing on "Blood on the dancefloor", which got pretty much ignored in the US. Another missed opputunity. Not that Iam really that fussed, but its quite interesting to me how Sony US seemed to somewhat have difficulty marketing "HIStory" after "you are not alone". You still see "stranger in Moscow" on music stations in the UK sometimes even today, but in the US? That and "earth song" had hit written all over them. What a real waste

Smile was released, or at least intended to be released, as I got one of the very rare CD singles of it. For me the big "shouldhavebeensingles" off this album were Tabloid Junkie - just a clear state of MJ's point of view of the media and a great bite back on what he had endured and catchy as all hell. And for me Money is a classic track that has a hypnotic groove and great singalong chorus. Swa "I'm not human I'm a dove, I'm ur conscience. I am love"

It was to be released and a video was also made, but it was cancelled Recently a couple of copies from the mastering sessions from Dangerous and HIStory album were on ebay and fans got their hands on them. Regarding the tour,
If Michael Jackson ignores touring the US this time around as well, I'll lash out at him. Not touring the US Since 1988- that's pathetic for a superstar like him. He was born here and started his career here. Just cause a bunch of losers ruined his career, doesn't mean he should shut out his American fans because of two losers- Sneddon and Arvizo Family. Why doesn't he have that mentality- f*ck the haters, I'll do the shows for the fans that wanna come. [Edited 3/10/09 0:20am]

bboy you consider 2Bad and Mony single worthy? I find them both two of the most obvious fillers on a MJ abum ever.
The HIStory album fucked up in the US, but it did really well n Europe.

The HIStory album fucked up in the US, but it did really well n Europe. I think Money definitely would have been a good single pick. And 2Bad is kicking in the original Ghost edit with that amazing dance routine - it's such a deceptively multilayered song. Swa "I'm not human I'm a dove, I'm ur conscience. I am love"

He's dresses like Jesus is in many European drawings (only towel 'round his hips and stuff) He does the Jesus pose quite often - stretching both arms out. He once said: Don't cry. I am here to cry" or something like this, which means he considers himself a mertyrerian (or hoewer you spell that in English). Not to forget he did touch sick children with his glove making people believe he actually could Heal the World and the people. spelling edit [Edited 3/10/09 9:40am]

Cause he is. DA King of music. that's strange. I'm a big fan too, but I don't understand how people could call him the king of music. He did produce 30 years of music (I can't find much work in this decade). During his Motown stuff he was provided with Motowns best compositions of that gtime, but they were not innovative and Mj did not write them. On the Jacksons albums he wrote ecxcellent songs but one would not claim the Jacksons songs are innovative or something. Off The Wall, Thriller are AMAZING albums, but in a thread I once said, I don't find he did invent anything. The songs are great but not unlike anything done before. His songs just had a certain quality. Anyway, he should be considered as probably THE most influential performance artist. He certainly did influence any generation after him, males. MJs performance is the ultimate performance style for pop muscians. MJ "invented" the way a male supoerstar has to act. Also he innovated the video-format. But although these are great achievement, the fact is, after Thriller he toured and stuff, but you could say, he was too long away from the music scene back in 87. There were other popstars who copied his style, Madonna defined the ideal music video during these days and later on. Of course MJ purist are gonna kill me for that. For those people, You Rock my World is an innovative video as well. the last innovative video Mj did was the Ghosts video and Scream is amazing too. So IÄm not one of these who claim he was only fresh in 1983. but basically, he's the king of visuals, but not music. It's OBVIOUS there are other musicians you defined the status-quo of music much more.
