Does anyone miss the good ole days of BET like I do? Remember when they had shows like Video Soul (I enjoyed it more when it was just Donnie Simpson instead of him sharing the hosting responsibilities with Sherry Carter), Video LP, Video Vibrations and their Monday music marathons, Screen Scene(BET's version Of Entertainment Tonight) and Live In LA.

Remember thier jingle? "You can bet on it. It's on that B. E. T. You can bet on it. It's on that Black Entertainment T. V.!!" Black Entertainment Television used to be fresh and flavorful. Now it's stale and molded. This is what happens when you sell your culture to...nevermind.

BET fell into the same trap as VH1 and MTV and most of the other cable stations. For whatever reason, young people like to watch crap reality shows so BET and the rest are just giving them what they want. I stopped watching BET many years ago when they pretty much put a halt to airing more mature programming. The only thing that airs on BET that is fit for a person my age (late 30s) is Bobby Jones Gospel. biggrin

I watched it for four summer months in each year of 2000 and 2001.

I liked their exclusive interviews, and performances on 106 and Park. I liked the host Free.

I watched Cita on my lunch break lol

I like how BETJ has brought back "In Video". It's cool to see old videos, especially when the videos corresponded with the actual song lol.

I also miss the original version of Rap City - (88-90).

Wow, when BET was worth a damn. I used to love watching BET to watch all those shows mentioned. It such a shame that it's become a joke. Thank you Robert Johnson for being a sellout.

I remember at the 2003 or 2004 BET Awards when he came out to do some speech, I was kinda surprised at how boastful he was confused

the early days of BET brought us video soul interviews w/Jesse Johnson, Vanity, Shelia, Jam & Lewis, Madhouse,Brownmark, and that's just from the Prince camp! Not to mention the episode where they went to flyte tyme!

The rest of BET was just wonderful.Teen Summit on sat. mornings....Rap City...nuff said.... Screen Scene...black ent. period....behind the scene specials of movies. Video LP w/ the Jesse Johnson theme song. The real BET jazz. The mid 90's only bright spot was Tavis' run on BET!

The downfall started when Donnie Simpson was let go,106 developed, and Tavis let go. Planet Groove tried....

Tvone has some old BET flair to them!!!!

what about the classic B.E.T. commercials 4 the gospel compliations like "I'm Comin Up.... On The Rough Side of the mountian...." or WHO IN THE HELL LEFT THE GATE OPEN?! The coolest thing about Donnie, was that every week on Video Soul when he'd step out of the elevator he'd have a different color suit on.....

I just uploaded an episode of Planet Groove with Rachel the other day smile

Didn't she also host a Carribean music video show as well?

Yup!

Its a damn shame what BET turned to. I havent watched it in years. 2004-5 was probably the last time I have sat and watched anything on that channel for more than 5 seconds.

What happened to BET? Well, that's what happens when you sell out for 4 billion dollars. I rarely watch TV anyway.
