The crunch of this Recession/Depression will now cause Tours and Albums to be Scaled Way Down

Dont think that Prince's "LotusFlower" 11.98 for 3 cds is just a marketing tool, its a recession special. And get ready to see lots more of it, but we will happen is a huge scaling down of tours, sets, equipment etc... You will also see alot of Bands not going into territories where they cant pull a little bit of profit. This will also force the drop in ticket prices, which is good, but will crush the little bands who can barely get people to turn up, the more they lower prices, they soon will be losing money touring, so if you can make money touring and you cant make it on a record, get ready for the end of alot of things. And im not talking about the shit, im talking about the bands/artists you wanna see.

U2 is already scaling down their ticket costs so people can afford to see them on tour this year.

this is spreading like wildfire too. Bands that usually go out on the summer tours, like Chicago,Hall and Oates, Journey,REO, Styx and tons of others, are doing joint "recession" tours, by putting 2-3 bands on one bill, and charging about 15-25 dollars, the major difference though, is this will totally cut out alot of smaller towns and cities, unless the band is a locally strong one in a particular city or town. So you will see alot more "strategy" tours, meaning, dont expect to see every town and venue hit. It will be interesting to see what Prince will do with this i doubt he will go $7.77 for a ticket, but he needs to get real too. You will still see HUGE prices for some, i mean because you know people will pay it, charge it, find a way to drop a couple of hundred to have 10th row at a u2 or Madonna or whoever tour.

Joint tours IS the way. I think it wouldn't hurt for some of the MAJOR acts to put little known acts on their tours, they hardly do that anymore. Of course, the local acts have to get prepared for the bigger crowds, lol. I honestly don't think some acts will GET it anyways. They'll just be more greedy. Rich get richer and the poor get poorer indeed. confused

I think this recession will hurt smaller acts actually that depend on tours, or just playing gigs, unless they take it back to clubs, which i dont mind, because i hate any venue over 1000 people anyway. This is why i think they will limit the stops they make, because carrying gear and road crews and sound crews is pretty damn expensive, and then you have to pay the venue a certain %, so if touring becomes a "drain" on artists that normally only make money on tours, thats when trouble will really set in.

But also the Madonna's of the world got to realize that with the way shit is going, to charge 200 bucks for a frigging mezzaine seat at MSG is just plain rude, i mean really.

But i will be going to see STYX this summer, shit for 13.50!! Thats what live nation adds on to a ticket price as a "service".

Right. I do think people WILL go back to doing clubs, that's usually where you get the real deal. I wanna see big stars do "intimate shows" anyway. The days of trying to be the BIG SHOT in tours is over, man. But I don't mind that at all, I really don't. At this point, be thankful of what you got because those that enjoyed certain things may not have it after a while.

I agree, joint tours are a great idea. This summer,Elton John and Billy Joel are touring together, and so is Chicago and Earth Wind &Fire. It's a smart strategy and it reduces touring costs, which means cheaper tickets for the fans.

and she won't step foot on a stage unless she knows everyone in the venue has paid at least a month's rent to see her.

U2 has always had cheap tickets for their fans, though. For as long as I can remember, they've kept the best tix at the lowest price. I went to the last tour 6 times and I only spent about $400 TOTAL!!! smile

• Did you first think Prince was gay? •

Wendy: He’s a girl, for sure, but he’s not gay. He looked at me like a gay woman would look at another woman. Lisa: Totally. He’s like a fancy lesbian.
