iTunes Plus files are higher quality (256 kbps instead of 128 kbps) and don't have any DRM (meaning you can play them on more than 5 computers).

I use HandBrake on my Mac to rip DVDs to my iPhone. I think they have a Windows version, but I know nothing about it.

No clue how to get video files onto an iPod but I do like to take my music DVD's and rip the audio in off them using a programme I found a 30 day trial of online.

I think it's called DVD Audio Extractor, or some such cryptic name smile

It's very good and doesn't take long. I know DVD audio isn't as high quality as CD (unless some techno boffin can correct me on that..?) but for iPod use it is more than adequate, so long as the audio is decent to start off with (which unfortunatley isn't the case on SOME music DVD's.....)

Mind, I am a huge fan of live music, so sometimes I prefer listening to a concert than a studio album.
This is not an exit

Are you on a PC or mac? I think the mac portion of your question was answered. However, for PC, there are a lot of software packages out there that can do this. I like the IM TOO DVD ripper. It does both audio and video. It can rip to Apple TV format as well as 3GP format for your cell phone.
