Whitney Houston covers "higher love" by Winwood

One of the 2 bonus tracks off the Japan release of "i'm your baby tonight" album. Narada, as usual, gets a great vocal from Whitney. Almost mucks up the middle 8 with the instrumentation, but its rescued. The album needed more uptempos like this. Quite why it was relegated to Japan only baffles me?

As much as I love Winwoods original, I give it to Whitney on this cover. Love it!

Does nothing for me. It does not sound like the rest of the CD, which was pretty good.

I agree. I ordered the Japan version of the CD a few years back thinking her reading of this song was going to be great and, at best, it was only fair. Winwood's original vocal along with Chaka's astonishing background support makes "Higher Love" untouchable for anyone else to cover.

And what made matters worse is the title track on the Japan CD was not the American version! They decided to replace it with a sloppy remix of "I'm Your Baby Tonite".

It's fun. I wish Whitney would attempt to do more dance pop stuff like this. Granted, it's dated but probably better than the luke warm R&B and ballads well get instead.

I remember seeing the concert clip and thought she just did it because lots of artists cover songs during their shows sometimes. As much as I hate to admit it, it inspired me to sing Higher Love without imitating Steve Winwood. The original is one of my favourite songs ever, but the voice is not that strong.

Does anyone think this would have been an awesome song for mj to sing in the late 80's?

More reasons to make Chaka mad.

Here something very interesting that I found out about Chaka. She has been responsible for a few songs and for some reason she has never really gotten credit.

1.Don't Look Any Further - Chaka no only co-wrote this song, but originally sung the co-lead vocal. But,because of something that went on between the two lables, her vocals were replaced with Sieeta's.

2. Addicted to Love - Again. Chaka co-wrote and even arranged the vocals of this song. And again, she not given credit for it. Robert Palmer even said Chaka had allot of input on this song.

3. Higher Love - This was supposed to be another duet. Chaka had arranged the vocals and I believe, even co-wrote some of the lyrics with Steve.

"Tell Me Something Good" was pretty much written by her, according to her autobiography.
