OK,I just listened to the album a few times. The music, the arrangements, and the production is excellent. The problem is.....Leon is not a "great" vocalist boxed He's good but not great. His vocals can't bring these songs to life the way Marvin could.

Damn did they come on back to back. I'll be lucky to catch American Masters on regular PBS, lol.

Yes sir, back to back. Which is kinda rare, especially with my local PBS station.

No one would disagree with you. Leon was a capable vocalist but that just shows you why you have to give it up for Marvin, he turned what could've been a very mundane Motown release into a masterpiece. Leon was best behind-the-scenes at best. That doesn't mean he was terrible but just like Arthur Ross, he just didn't have "it".

To be honest, I think "Body Heat" kept it from being taken away by Marvin. lol

I need 2 get that album! I was just listening 2 the 'I Want You' album and it's still great 2 hear! Classic! I bet that album mentioned is a HOT one 2.I'm interested in getting that one. I gotta look 4 that one. Cool!

There's only one way to listen to "I Want You"..., and that's in its entirety, and horizontal. I personally think Musical Massage's a nice LP that's worth adding to a musical library.."cheaply".

Musical Massage is pretty much the album I Want You was minus the conceptual feel though you always hear another song echoing in the background after the end of one song, lol.

It's interesting how some things just work out. You notice a lot of differences in songs Marvin recorded when you hear other people doing it. I heard the Originals' version of "You're the One" and then I heard Marvin's (he wrote and produced it) and you could feel the soul in both but in different ways.

It's obvious that Motown were pissed at Leon for not giving this album to Marvin. When it was released in late 1976,they didn't no any promotion for it at all. They even cancelled the planned first single "Share Your Love"! No singles were released from this project.

Well, Leon should have seen that coming! I said from the beginning he should have given the songs to Marvin! As a songwriter your primary interest must be making your songs known. And unless you're a high profile superstar it's better for you to give your songs away!

I mean, imagine Billy Steinberg would have persisted to release Like A Virgin on his own. Nobody would listen to that song anymore!

Well, anyway, IF Musical massage would have been Marvin#s album Leon Ware would to this day receive royalties whereas the album nowadays is simply out of print.

yeah, but it's not that he's broken? I Want You (the song) alone must have brought him millions. Even if it just was for the Madonna version, her version was sold like six million!
