Oh, trust me, I LOVE the old Minneapolis Sound, but this really isn't it. The Minneapolis Sound is about those synthesizers, bass, Linn drums, and MELODY!! This album's only got about 1 of the 4. Exactly. There's no melody whatsoever. The music on the first three tracks sounds decent but it's ruined by the silly "singing a rap" technique that everyone seems to be doing these days. vainandy said: That is an excellent description of it and you've definately got that right when you said "fams" over there praising it. I could feel the vomit coming up to the top of my throat when I heard loads of them referring to "Ol' Skool Company" as "funky" or "Classic Prince". That damn song is pure shit hop from the midtempo, from the way in which he's rapping on it, and from the silly childish words he uses such as "shawty". And what trips me out is he has some good messages in it such as "Now that the White House is black, we need to take the radio back", "Radio back in the day was local and not run by The Man", and "Where's the drummer", "Where's the real drums". But look what type of song he placed those messages on top of....the same type of music he's preaching against. What the hell? Has he absolutely lost his sanity? LMAO!!! I know, right? How on earth do these people think this is classic Prince? I mean, were they even around or alive when he was creating his legacy with the REAL MPLS Sound?? I doubt it! They probably just jumped on the train around Musuckology or something. I want them to listen to "Head", "She's Always In My Hair", or "Lady Cab Driver" and then tell me this bullshit he just came out with is anything like it. They must be smoking something if they do. I saw some of these "fams" were saying that youngsters will think he bit off of T-Pain with the autotune voice but in reality Prince was the one who started all of the voal "trickery". Excuse me??!!! No, he definitely bit off of T-Pain's ass nuggets with that shit! No doubt about it. What in the hell does it bring or add to the song? Nothing but that shit hop attitude you were talking about. These fams think Prince just invented a new smooth style of music called jazz. Geesh!!

Those three performances were taken from a live concert in Germany. The entire concert is available on DVD and was released a few years ago. It's called "Super Freak 1982". He drags some of the songs out too long with a lot of crowd participation.... Rick: Somebody say....Oooh Audience: Oooh Rick: Say...oooh weeeee Audience: Ooooh weeeee Other than that, it's pretty good. Andy is a four letter word.

Rick: Somebody say....Oooh Audience: Oooh Rick: Say...oooh weeeee Audience: Ooooh weeeee Other than that, it's pretty good. I know what you mean! That's really my only complaint of that DVD....there are too many silly, audience participation games. It's annoying when he and his band get a hot groove going, then after the first verse and chorus he engages in all of that call-and-response stuff. It's fun on a few songs, but I think he over-did it during this particular show. .
