That's what made the Chappelle skits so funny, Rick really said and did shit like that back then.

Ok,I watched the whole thing and I love it! thumbs up! If you're a Rick James fan, this DVD is essential.'Garden Of Love' was never one of my favorite Rick James album but after watching the performances on this DVD,I'm gonna pull that record out and give it another listen."Summer Love","Mary Go Round" and "Big Time" sounded really good to me on this DVD music

Love the never-before-seen video for "Hard To Get" and the part when Rick won an award and gave his acceptance speech from his studio.I also liked the early clips of Rick performing on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert show.

One minor complaint: where is the "Bustin Out" video? It would have been nice to have seen a few more songs from 'Bustin Out Of L7' (my second favorite Rick James album).

I getting his rival's album tomorrow. I'm thinking a 2 disc set from the
purple one he has got to have some good cuts on it. I know technically it's
a 3 disc set but i'm not even thinking about Bria just yet. Once i absorb
prince's new material then i'll check her out. I still have not bought this
dvd yet. I'm giving the purple one first dibs then i'll check rick's dvd
later.

What about the second disc 'MPLSound'? Is it as good as people say? Doesn't Prince mention Rick James on one of the songs?!

Yeah, he mentions something about Rick James in "There'll Never Be Another Like Me", or whatever the hell it's officially called! It's very quick though.

And no, the MPLSound album is NOT as people on here are saying. It pretty much has the same Linn dum beat throughout the entire album. It was like he thought that since people love that sound so much, he'd just put it in every damn song, regardless of if it fit or not. Plus, he didn't "experiment" with the Linn like he used to. It was basically "by-the-numbers". There might be a couple of okay songs (just okay), but trust me, NOTHING like these crazy "fams" are talking about on here! It's nothing that will get played by me 5 years from now...or even 1-2 years.

I figured he and I would have about the same reaction to it. Yeah, give it a listen and check it out; you might like something on there. Though, I know our styles are somewhat similar, so I doubt it. LOL! You'll probably be thinking along the same lines Andy and I are. lol

Vainandy hates anything with even a little bit of "shit hop" in it lol I like the idea of Prince going "retro" but based on what Vainandy says,it doesn't seem like he went far enough into his past.

Oh, trust me, I LOVE the old Minneapolis Sound, but this really isn't it. The Minneapolis Sound is about those synthesizers, bass, Linn drums, and MELODY!! This album's only got about 1 of the 4. confused Maybe Lewis & Jam can remind him. On that front, I'm SO looking forward to some new Time music to see if they fared any better on bringing some of that true sound back (that's IF they can get that shit out for the public; release it, dammit!!).

I just listened to the first three tracks.I don't like the first song "There'll Never Be Another Like Me"."Dance 4 Me" is okay.I forgot the name of the third song I heard, but it didn't leave much of an impression.

You must be talking about "Chocolate Box", which is actually worse than Dance 4 Me. That was one of the ones I felt was "okay", but still nothing I would consider the real Minneapolis Sound. The other one is "No More Candy 4 U", which does somewhat sound like some of his old "rockabilly" tunes like "Jack U Off" or "Horny Toad". "Hey Valentina" is meh, and those are about it that I'd even bother listening to. But hey, don't let lil ol' me spoil your fun. You might like it. wink LOL!

That is an excellent description of it and you've definately got that right when you said "fams" over there praising it. I could feel the vomit coming up to the top of my throat when I heard loads of them referring to "Ol' Skool Company" as "funky" or "Classic Prince". That damn song is pure shit hop from the midtempo, from the way in which he's rapping on it, and from the silly childish words he uses such as "shawty". And what trips me out is he has some good messages in it such as "Now that the White House is black, we need to take the radio back", "Radio back in the day was local and not run by The Man", and "Where's the drummer", "Where's the real drums". But look what type of song he placed those messages on top of....the same type of music he's preaching against. What the hell? Has he absolutely lost his sanity? lol

No, the problem is, he went back too far. Shawties, ganstas, haters, baby mamas, scopin', coppin'. Hell, he didn't go back to the Minneapolis old school, he went back to Compton grade school. What's his next album going to be about....Barney bustin' a cap in Sponge Bob's ass? lol
