Stevie Wonder receiving the Gershwin Award airing 2night on PBS

http://www.pbs.org/inperf...hitehouse/
An evening of celebration with President and Mrs. Obama at the White House in honor of musician Stevie Wonder's receipt of the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song takes place February 25, 2009. The concert will include performances by Wonder with a cavalcade of popular musicians, performing a selection of Wonder's hit songs. The sixty-minute program airs Thursday, February 26, 2009, at 8 p.m. ET on PBS stations nationwide. (check local listings)

Check your local listings. I see that PBS is airing it in different timeslots in different markets.

Looks like you can view the entire episode online after the initial airing.

I enjoyed this, although to be honest, Stevie was somewhat upstaged by the First Couple. I think some folks were more tributing them than him. In any case, I enjoyed it, Stevie is a national treasure.
Did anyone else think India Arie did a pretty poor performance? Summer Soft is one of my favorites, and I was surprised she had such a hard time.

Esperanza Spalding

Esperanza is the Spanish word for hope, and bassist, vocalist and composer Esperanza Spalding could not have been given a more fitting name at birth. She is the 2005 recipient of the Boston Jazz Society scholarship for outstanding musicianship. The newest chapter of 24-year-old Spalding's journey begins with the release of her international debuted recording for Heads Up in May 2008. The album will be the first opportunity for the worldwide audience to witness her talents as an instrumentalist, vocalist and composer.

Thank you. Very refreshing to see.

I love this intimate setting. Thank God for PBS.

I don't remember "Isn't She Lovely". I remember "Sir Duke" and "Superstition". You can see it online on the PBS website.

I gotta say that I couldn't be any happier about being a part of this, and I cannot express how truly magnificent this is.

Stevie can now truly say that he has lived 2 see the dream he had worked so hard 2 bring into fruition.

His music and words literally saved my life, and 4 him 2 hear the President and the First Lady say how his music was a soundtrack 4 their lives, and part of how they came together...

WOW.

I was singing along with most of it, but ended up crying like a Baby about 3 times.

EWF wasn't there. Go to the PBS website (in the first posting) and see a list of the performers.

Yeah I said it. I just couldn't help it. I mean, I grew up running 4 the VCR whenever Stevie was going 2 perform on TV. I used 2 lock myself in my room, and listen 2 every Stevie Wonder album over and over again. "Higher Ground" brought me out of near suicide depression as a kid. It reversed what I was feeling, and lifted me up.

That's why I say that he literally saved my life, PLUS one of my biggest musical influences, including vocally and lyrically.

So when I had the opportunity 2 meet him and work with him about 5 years ago, I let him know how much his music affected my life. It truly meant a lot 2 him, and especially when he found out that I have the same Birthday.

Don't 4get how Lula Mae would offer the President a peach cobbler.

Steve loves peach cobbler. He mentions it on his radio show all of the time.

just watching it now, and although i'm enjoying it, why are all these 'artists' butchering Stevie classics?
Tony Bennett really needs to call it a day now, and as for Diana Krall, who the hell told her she could sing?
