Lil Wayne's Rock Album May Not Be Released Under Universal

http://www.aceshowbiz.com...22340.html

Rumor has been circulating in the media, claiming that Universal refuse to release Lil Wayne's rock-themed album 'REBIRTH'.

Rumor has it, Lil Wayne's forthcoming rock-inspired album "REBIRTH" will not be released under Universal Music Group. The decision is withdrawn by the record label's executives because they fear that the album will fail and knock Wayne from being the top-selling singer.

According to This Is 50, people at the recording company have warned Wayne through his manager Cortez Bryant, saying that "if Wayne doesn't brighten up they have to turn into Mr. Evil Record Company and just tell him it's never going to be released." As of press time, no comment has been shared by the rapper's management team concerning the rumor.

Lil Wayne previously pushed back "REBIRTH" from April 7 to May 19 release. He will enter recording booth with alternative rock band Fall Out Boy and make a collaboration with the Patrick Stump-fronted band in the record.

"Prom Queen", the first single off the record has been released since late January. Using Auto-Tune on the hook, it rose to number 15 on Billboard Hot 100 and charted at number 16 on Billboard Bubbling Under R&B/Hip-Hop Singles despite its rock genre.

Exactly, and this is the "thinking" that took over the industry about 20 years ago and its been growing everyday since. If people want to MARK a day on their calendar of when this all became about "bottom line" go back to the day when Eddie Murphy was the Host of the MTV music awards, and to promote it, he went on the David Letterman Show, Dave pointed out how MTV "was for sale" and Eddie said "they sold it" and Dave turned to one of the guys that was at the show from MTV and called them "weasels", a term Dave used quite alot back then for record people on his show. Well that was the day, even PRINCE cited this as the changing of the Guard, so dont think this is this decades creation, the "disease" was planted years ago, its just that now its widespread.

Just the fact that the label wont put this record out because "it may not sell" shows the thinking of todays, business people who run labels who have no clue on music, and im sorry to say, as long as that is the model, than nothing will change, and please NO ONE preach "underground" and "the internet" because its all coming from the same "train of thought".

"We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

In defense of this album. I've heard snippets and I am more than positive that this will be a monster. I might not agree with all of the subject matter of it all but it is encouraging for Blacks to move forward in the Rock as whole. We don't have as much of a presence as I would see think. Especially considering the foundation of Rock music is historically Black folk music.
