Studio Jams - The Series For me, there's been very little to praise about the programming on BET.
However, a year or two ago, they regularly aired a series called Studio Jams. The premise of the show was to assemble a group of musicians from different styles and genres that most times had never played together before. They would decide on a few tunes, work out arrangements and then record them. This series now has its own website (www.studiojams.com) and YouTube Channel (http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=AceEntertainmentInc&view=videos) where each video features a segment of one of the over 40 episodes in the series. ...General overview ...Studio Jams #3 Russell Ferrante - Keyboards Jimmy Haslip - Bass Marcus Baylor - Drums Bob Mintzer - Saxophones Andre Ryabov - Guitar Doc Gibbs - Percussion ...Studio Jams #12 Terence Blanchard - Trumpet Bobby Lyle - Keyboards Lionel Loueke - Guitar Chico Huff - Bass Kendrick Scott - Drums Edgardo Cintron - Percussion ...Studio Jams #28 Gerald Albright - Sax Gerald Veasley - Bass James Rouse - Drums Jef Lee Johnson - Guitar Will Brock - Keyboards ...Studio Jams #39 Jeff Berlin - Bass Rodney Holmes - Drums Jef Lee Johnson - Guitar Jaared Arosemena - Sax The beauty of all this for me (beyond their skills as musicians) is how all these individuals (Jazzers, Rockers, Smoothers, World, etc) can come to a mutually beneficial agreement on what to play and how to play certain tunes, working through their initial fears (some of them anyway) and aprehensions (generally about their own abilities). Personally, I see a strong analogy here with how people in general could learn to come together for a common goal. A very meaningful Reality Series for a change. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. Many of the initial episodes were done there. And you know these cats are aware of the history. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all." | |
