I was watching some Johnny Cash on youtube when it struck me just how much music I've missed out on by being born in 1985.

Johnny Cash is dead
Elvis is dead
Jimi and Janis and Jim are all dead
James Brown is dead
Zappa's kicked it
Mama Cass and Karen Carpenter are gone
Two of the Beatles are gone, and the group was long-since defunct anyway.
Buddy Holly's been dead since my mother was three!
and Michael's not dead, but he's been batshit insane for years...

and that's only what I can think of off the top of my head. All acts I'd kill to see perform live, and I'll never get a chance to.

nah, just take it as a blessing you have this much music to absorb.

being born in 1985 means you were born after all the good music was made, and by the time you are old enough to understand and enjoy music you are surrounded by some of the most awful crap ever created, and fashion was at it's worst point at the end of the 80s and start of the 90s, so that surely must have seriously affected your mind.

i would cut your losses and kill yourself if i was you. it's the only option unless you wish a misery filled life of madness, or you want to be a rockstar or rapper

I lived the 70s and never saw my favourite grous play live. It was in the 80s when I started buying music by myself and I always chose current artists. Now I do believe most of the music made today is shit but you can go back and listen to older music anytime and with better sound (if you were a boy you'd think it's important) than ever.

I'm buying lots and lots of 70's and 60's remastered expanded editions these days. Even music I didn't care for at the time I find it excellent or at least interesting today. I bought the 50th Motown anniversary 10 CD box set last Christmas and since then I've bought several discographies from that period (Supremes, Martha and the Vandellas, Marvin Gaye...)

Funkadelic and most Parliament's 70s albums are remastered.

The Bee Gees 60s catalogue, The Kinks, Nilsson, Donovan. The Beatles remasters will be out later in the year.

There's a lot of music to absorb and you have time so stop complaining


PS. Young people, please, BUY the music you like. If you can have an iPod, an Iphone, a PlayStation, a car...you can afford spending some dollars on music.

But when I think that, at 14 years old my mother was at the real Woodstock, playing in the mud and hearing Jimi make that guitar scream, and I, at 14, was sitting at home watching riots on TV at Woodstock '99, it's a little depressing.
