Outkast's (Andre3000) "Hey Ya"

I used to looooove this song so much. Played it constantly as well as the Speakerboxxx/The Love Below album. What are your opinions on this song? Do you think it's a classic? Do you think it has a Prince type sound to it?

A great zeitgeist song ads it really seems dated only after a few years later.

I always thought he sounded more like Mick Jagger in that song.

Not Prince though.

Other songs on the album definitely reminded me of Prince though.

In particular:

"Spread"
"Vibrate"
"Happy Valentines Day"
"Love Hater"

I'm sure there's more but I'm forgetting.....

I thought "Behold A Lady" sounded very much like "Word Up" by Cameo.

Again, there's a very detailed review on my blog...

I used to think it musically sounded like The Beatles at top speed. Definitely one of the few real classics of the 2000's. cool

Love the song, love the entire CD. Did you all know that it was supposed to be the soundtrack to a movie that never came to life, called "The Love Below". When the movie did not pan out, the released the album along with "SpeakerBoxx".

I hate that song so much. Never understood why people like/liked it. The music sucks, his voice sucks, the lyrics suck, the video sucked, his hair sucked, his outfits sucked, his horse mouth sucked. everything sucked.

I used to love it but it got overplayed.

I prefer Prototype, it's a Prince leftover if I ever heard one!

Although I prefer "I Like The Way You Move," Andre3000's pop smash is the more perfect pop song.

"She lives in my lap" is IMO the most Prince influenced song on the album. A gem of a song it is too, co-incidentally!

See? I knew I was forgetting something! lol

Yes!!! thumbs up!

That's like a cross between "The Ballad of Dorothy Parker" and of course, "She's Always In My Hair." cool

I disagree. That to me is Andre doing his best Larry Blackmon imitation. It's an ice cold soul ballad from the '70s thrown into the 2000s.

I hated that song until I saw the video, then it grew on me. That one didn't sound like Prince to me though but the rest of the Love Below CD was a straight tribute to the one who used to be known as His Royal Badness! wink
I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I think this song will age well, but I'm still not at the point where I can enjoy listening to it. I'm still just a wee bit tired of it. A couple more years and I'll reclaim it, I'm sure.
