The RIAA!

They've been cracking down on Youtube. I've noticed for the last couple of weeks or so that a lot of videos have the video but no audio and a message that says there was a copyright claim.

They're not going to stop trying to kill Youtube, P2P, and the like until there's an all out consumer revolution against the music industry.
I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

The RIAA is only part of the issue. The bulk of it actually is Viacom and NBC/Universal getting really aggressive about pulling their copyrighted content off YouTube servers. Viacom in particular is suing Google for about a billion dollars because people were loading music videos and clips from The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. In the end, though, it's all about money. Viacom is losing a lot of money, and instead of looking at their boneheaded business decisions to alienate their viewers by not playing any more music videos or not allowing people to embed their clips, they are going after Google instead because they claim that they are making money off their content without paying for copyright. NBC/Universal is also aggressively going after Google and YouTube for their video content, but they also have their own competing service in Hulu to protect.

Google/YouTube is honoring their part of the deal that they currently have with Sony/BMI, WB Music Group, Universal, & EMI. All 4 of the American magor labels have their own YT channels. If too many YT members are uploading the same music videos that are under ownerships by the labels themselves, then the channels of those YT members will be terminated and/or the videos will only be block from the YT viewers in the USA.

Meanwhile, neither music fans OR The WB Music Group are allow to have any Prince videos on YT at all without having The Royal Goodness & his lawyers crying potential lawsuits.

And the problem isn't just in the USA. The UK is facing the same problem as well, as Endemol-made products (music, TV, or movies) are being block from YT viewers in the UK.

I'm surprise that Joost & Megavideo hasn't been called out yet.

As for iFilm, they were brought out by Spike TV.

In the UK, Endemol is doing the same thing as NBC/Universal. Many fans of Big Brother UK are having clips of classic BB episodes being block from UK YT viewers. Only die-hard fans from North America can see any of the clips now.

True but the jokes on them because I don't like Hulu, it's too cold and impersonal for my taste and taking all their stuff off of Youtube isn't going to change that!

The other more looming issue coming up with regard to YouTube and other online video content is the digital TV transmission. (Yes, I hate to refer to that, but it's a big deal.) Once the digital TV transmission is finally made, the analog bandwidth which is left over after the public safety units get their share is to be auctioned off. Most of it will probably go to AT&T and the wireless companies like Verizon so they can beam wireless cellular and internet service all over the place. Google is also looking to take some of this freed up spectrum to roll out their own WiMax service. At any rate, this will allow the wireless ISP's to stream music and video in real time not just to computers but other mobile devices all across the country without the need for placing cell towers every half mile. What this will end up doing is giving YouTube-like videos broadcast TV quality streaming. So imagine making a YouTube video that won't skip when buffering and can be seen live on your iPhone or laptop while moving at 55 mph.

disbelief

Tried to warn folks about these deletions many moons ago.
Learned my hard lesson when certain videos that I thought would be there forever vanished.
Hence, any video that I think i've got any future interest in, I save immediately.

I was thinking about this the other day. I am really surprised it took this long. Good thing I ripped all the music I wanted from there already. nod

BTW, it is totally fans' fault that Dailymotions got found out. It was the best secret out there.

All of the Michael Jackson & Madonna videos are on YT since both artists have their own respected YT channe
l.

I wish all of the other artists out there (especially Prince) would do the same and put a stop to all of this blocking out foolishness.
