Sade appreciation thread

This thread is really out of nowhere since Sade has been around forever and hasn't released new music for a while.

But, I've been in a Sade phase recently and have been blown away listening to the music.

Let's get one thing clear. Sade by no means has the strongest voice. Many singers have greater range, greater power, are are more dynamic. I'm not saying, in any way, that she's a not a great singer, just a limited singer.

But, I think the genius of Sade is that she herself is aware of this and she NEVER tries to be something she's not, NEVER tries to do something she can't. Her and her band are fantastic at creating music that plays to her vocal strenghts and unique style.

We all love the singers with the huge voices who can impress with vocal gymnastics, who get as all worked up, but sometimes it's nice to just sit back and chill with someone who can set a consistent groove and run with it. Sade does that better than anyone.

Listening to all the albums recently, I think almost all of the non-singles are just as good as the singles. So consistent. Great albums throughout.

Anyone else love Sade?

Sade is one artist who never let me down...She plays to her strengths and you would never know she was a limited singer. Her band is the tightest unit i've heard in a long time. Like Coltrane3 has said b4 you can snuggle up with the one you love/like and have a good time listening to a smooth groove and just ride with it.

She's hawt. I have good memories of watching her perform "Your Love is King" on that beautiful summer day at Live Aid ('specially when she took off her jacket drool).

Everybody at the org loves Sade!

She laid down the single most depressing album in history:

She has such an incredible catalogue but Promise is my favorite because it's the one that bleeds the most.

My love is wider
Wider than Victoria Lake.
My love is taller
Taller than the Empire State.
It dives and it jumps and it ripples like the deepest ocean.
I can't give you more than that
Surely you want me back.

Is it a crime? Is it a crime that I still want you?
And I want you to want me too.

Where's the cliff!?! bawl

This is the only album of hers that I don´t have. But I am planning on buying it. I love Maureen and Is it a crime - that´s a masterpiece.

I prefer this version to the Live Aid one. At Live Aid it sounds rushed, but this she sounds and looks amazing in this one.

I prefer this version of "Love is King" to the Live Aid one, lol:

I kept thinking how odd a soul/jazz singer and jazz band are at Live Aid, basically a rock concert for charity, lol. Their performances seem rushed.

Would you really consider Sade jazz? And Style Council played daytime at Wembley, as well. While they were arguably not "soul", the set they played that day could certainly be considered so.

Not really... her style's jazzy but then again, I don't know... it's hard to categorize Sade really.

One of my least favourite Sade songs. Her whole last album is not as strong as the previous. It´s missing the saxophone.
